“Jersey Shore” star Nicole “Snooki” Polizzi took heat for sipping wine while bottle-feeding her baby in a viral Instagram post Saturday — but shot back at haters that she’s feeding her kids by the book.
Polizzi, 31, posted a photo to Instagram depicting her sipping a glass of red wine while cradling 2-month-old son Angelo, who has a plastic milk bottle sticking out of his mouth.
“‘What’s mom life like with 2 kids and a newborn?’ THIS. #MomJuice #ImAGoodMomISwear,” she captioned the snap.
Polizzi is also mom to Lorenzo, 6, and Giovanna, 4, with husband Jionni LaValle.
Many commenters cheered the reality TV star’s ability to juggle child-rearing and personal relaxation, but some users implied this made her a bad mom.
“You not suppose to drink alcohol if you breastfeeding your baby,” one wrote.
That provoked phalanx of Polizzi’s fans to come to her defense.
“looking at the photo I could affirm she’s not breastfeeding her baby,” one person responded.
“your (sic) fine ? drink away .. your baby is beautiful & so are you ?,” another wrote.
Polizzi had her own reply to the troll.
“you’re not a mom. I allow myself to have a few glasses once a week to stay sane with 3 kids. I do what’s necessary to clean my milk for my baby. Let a mawma live and keep being 17,” she wrote.
It was not immediately clear when Polizzi pumped the milk in question.
Alcohol can, indeed, enter breast milk, according to the US Centers for Disease Control.
“Alcohol levels are usually highest in breast milk 30-60 minutes after an alcoholic beverage is consumed and can be generally detected in breast milk for about 2-3 hours per drink after it is consumed,” according to the agency.
“Generally, moderate alcohol consumption by a breastfeeding mother (up to 1 standard drink per day) is not known to be harmful to the infant, especially if the mother waits at least 2 hours after a single drink before nursing.”
