Davina McCall's 'middle-aged Love Island' now has an official name and format

Davina McCall is gearing up to host what has been lovingly dubbed ‘middle-aged Love Island,’ and now the programme has an official name – My Mum, Your Dad.

The show, which previously had a working title of Romance Retreat, is set to air in Autumn, and ITV has also revealed the format for the brand-new offering.

As the title suggests, the people who are looking for love are all single parents from across the UK, and their grown-up offspring are the ones who nominated them to take part in this romantic adventure, but there’s a twist!

‘Unbeknownst to the parents, their kids will be watching their every move from a nearby location called ‘The Bunker’,’ ITV explained.

The daters will be under constant surveillance, and the children will even hold some power over what goes down in the country house retreat, where all the singles will be living while trying to find love. The nominators will have ‘the opportunity to play matchmaker and decide their mum or dad’s dating fate.’

It’s safe to say we’re sold.

The series isn’t quite as long as Love Island – instead we will be treated to 10-hour-long episodes, so the single hopefuls will have to get their graft on, and quickly decide which baskets to put their eggs in.

ITV added: ‘From humorous moments to heartwarming confessions, the kids will see their parents in a whole new light as they are presented with opportunities to select who they’ll be matched with on one-to-one dates, and who may join the family celebrations for years to come.

‘Get the tissues at the ready as we witness the highs and the lows, the tears and the funny moments, of finding love again,’ they concluded.

Davina, 55, has bags of passion for this new TV project, as she was the person who begged for it to be made.

She previously spoke to Steven Bartlett on his podcast, Diary of a CEO about her ambition.

‘I’m literally begging ITV to let me present mid-life Love Island. I could fill a villa in Love Island with the best backstories you have ever heard in your life.’

Her persistence certainly paid and she has now spoken about her excitement to be at the helm of the show.

‘Thank goodness the secret is finally out! I’ve been bursting to tell,’ she began.

‘I’m so so excited to host My Mum, Your Dad – this show will have you so invested in the people in it.

‘Fascinating, vibrant individuals who have lived incredible lives already, with a million life lessons under their belts, as they search for their perfect life partner. But also with the juiciest twist of any show I’ve ever worked on.’

The show is produced by Lifted Entertainment, who relaunched Love Island in 2015 so they certainly know how to make a dating show successful (and addictive).

Managing Director Richard Cowles wanted to showcase that ‘dating isn’t just about young people,’ and worked with father and daughter Haley and Greg Daniels, who created the concept.
