In its recent annual general meeting, Ferrari CEO John Elkann announced to investors that the carmaker will officially unveil its “first all-electric Ferrari” by 2025. Over the past decade, supercar maker has made statements repeatedly confirming it will never be building an electric vehicle.
Elkann revealed in the report, “We are continuing to execute our electrification strategy in a highly disciplined way. And our interpretation and application of these technologies both in motorsport and in road cars is a huge opportunity to bring the uniqueness and passion of Ferrari to new generations.”
The CEO adds, “We are also very excited about our first all-electric Ferrari that we plan to unveil in 2025 and you can be sure this will be everything you dream the engineers and designers at Maranello can imagine for such a landmark in our history.” The report also alludes to Ferrari’s plans for sustainability, as the company explained how it plans to account for “hybrid and electric powertrains” and the new body styles for its upcoming Purosangue SUV.
Ferrari also mentions the SF90 Stradale as it will see the automaker’s first application of a rear-mid engine architecture that is set to account for the weight and positioning of an electric motor and battery. Final designs are still in the works for the front mid-engine car to maintain the brand’s high range of sportiness and comfort.
Ferrari also touched on adding autonomous driving technology, stating it hopes to “adopt certain features of autonomous driving technology in response to regulatory developments and customer preferences, especially in the GT segment.”
Ferrari has yet to reveal the latest design concept of its first all-electric car.
In other automotive news, Washington State will ban new gas vehicle sales by 2030.
