Janelle Monáe Dedicates an Uplifting Performance of "Turntables" to Stacey Abrams

Janelle Monáe delivered her first late-night TV performance of “Turntables” on Tuesday evening, and now we’re obsessed with the electrifying song all over again. The talented multihyphenate appeared on The Late Show to belt out the Oscar-shortlisted track, which she wrote for the poignant voter-suppression documentary All In: The Fight For Democracy. Wearing a dapper outfit coordinated to those of her backup musicians, Monáe dedicated the staging to voting-rights activist Stacey Abrams, who stars in the aforementioned film, along with “everybody fighting for the rights of our people.”

The same night her Late Show performance aired, Monáe offered fans more insight into the inspiration behind the song on Instagram. “All In: The Fight For Democracy started out as a documentary that turned into a movement and I was blessed to be a part of it with ‘Turntables,'” she wrote. “This song is for our people and part of a revolution that is still unfolding before our eyes. This song is not for me, but for We, WE THE PEOPLE.” Listen to her empowering rendition above, and be sure to pay close attention to the galvanizing lyrics.
