Amongst California’s many attractions, Big Sur is arguably the state’s most scenic destination. Located roughly three hours south of San Francisco, a 90-mile stretch between San Simeon and Carmel-by-the-sea gives way to enormous Redwood trees that line up against the picturesque California coastline.
Long cherished as a camping and hiking destination, Carmel will now be on fashion radars, thanks to a new VISVIM store that just opened up. As the Japanese label’s third brick-and-mortar in the U.S., joining Los Angeles and Santa Fe, the shop is housed in a former grocery store that will feature the brand’s seasonal collections, as well as offer limited merch from FIL Indigo Camping Trailer and CONTRARY DEPT.
“I immediately fell in love with the cozy feel and charm of the town,” said VISVIM founder, Hiroki Nakamura, after first visiting Carmel several years ago. “The streets are lined with old fashioned rustic feeling shops and homes. Local residents exude a sense of pride in protecting their community and even today there are almost no retail chain stores, but rather a collection of unique privately owned businesses. This is quite a rare sight in America today, and I am drawn to the ideology of creating a life of their own and taking pride in the culture and history of the city.”
Dubbed WMV VISVIM CARMEL, the shop will also serve fresh drip coffee, espresso, and coffee beans to fuel you on your journey.
On the topic of Japanese labels, Goldwin has launched the Re-Optimum collection.
