YMC Channels Dark Spirituality With the Unveiling of SS21 Collection

After rounding up 2020 by embracing heritage British staples, London-based brand YMC has gone against the grain with the reveal of its mystical Spring/Summer 2021 collection.

YMC has channelled the writings of prolific British figures such as infamous occultist Aleister Crowley and mystic novelist Arthur Machen. Experimental filmmaker Kenneth Anger and electronic music pioneer Ruth White also provide visual reference and inspiration to the campaign.

The men’s collection contains a variety of outerwear including a paisley jacquard collarless work jacket, an organic, floral print chore jacket and a reworked MA-1 flight jacket. Shirts continue the demonic theme with a ‘Demon’ silk-cotton Aloha and paisley shirt, a print pattern based on a traditional patchwork star design, and T-shirts bearing Aleister Crowley quotes and embroidered dark spirituality images like tarot cards on sweatshirts.

The women’s collection complements the men’s with stand-out pieces including a ripstop coat and a floral print Japanese seersucker. Aiming for a relaxed, but luxury aesthetic, double-sided satin appears on both a bomber and a parka jacket with nylon trousers and a parachute skirt adding a modern twist on sportswear.

Design cues from workwear, sportswear and prairie styles have been adopted onto a range of sturdy but light fabrics such as linen, silk and organic cotton. Keeping in line with its mystical theme, blood red, black and gold over floral and paisley patterns adorn this collection.
