All The Instagram Takeovers Happening For #ShareTheMicNow Today

Today, Instagram users everywhere will see a shake-up in their usual programming, as white influencers hand over their keys to black influencers in an effort to reach new audiences with black women’s voices.

The project is called #ShareTheMicNow, and it was started by marketing exec Bozoma Saint John, author Luvvie Ajayi Jones, author Glennon Doyle, and Alice + Olivia designer Stacey Bendet.

For this first round on June 10th, 92 women are participating, including Kourtney Kardashian, Katie Couric, Elaine Welteroth, Tarana Burke, Latham Thomas, Ibtihaj Muhammad, Nikki Ogunnaike, and Gwenyth Paltrow.

“As a leading voice in the wellness industry who’s spent 2 decades of my professional life carving a path, I know first hand how challenging it is to be in space that minimizes the voices and contributions of POC,” Thomas, the founder of MamaGlow, wrote on Instagram. “As a black woman who’s also a leader in the maternal health space I know all too well the challenges birth workers of color face in advancing their careers while lifting what maters most- birth equity and reproductive justice.”

She’ll take over Paltrow’s account tomorrow, since G.P. is also a force in the wellness industry. You can check out the other takeovers featured in the graphic below:

The founders of #ShareTheMicNow started the project in hopes of magnifying black women’s lives and stories, forming relationships among black women and white women, and creating a network of disruptors who know and trust each other, according to a press release.

The audience for this “first iteration” of the project is expected to reach 300 million users, which, wow.
