Celebrate curry week without breaking the bank with our top money-saving tips – The Sun

YOU would be mad-ras to miss this spicy celebration. It is National Curry Week, so what better time is there to indulge in your favourite Indian dish?

You might be surprised to learn that we spend up to £340 a year on spicy meals, with an average of £9.41 per dish.

Whether you are crazy for korma or love a vindaloo, here are some tips on how to cut the price of spice.

DIY: Making a curry from scratch is not costly if you know what you are looking for. At Tesco, get six chicken breasts currently on offer for £3.25, down from £3.80, and a Sharwood’s curry sauce for £1.85. Then add own-brand microwave pilau rice for 60p. That totals £5.70 for two — just £2.85pp.

Chef Miguel Barclay also has a delicious sweet potato katsu curry recipe that costs just £1 per serving. See his YouTube channel for more dishes costing a quid.

DINE-OUT DEAL: To celebrate Curry Week, you can get 25 per cent off at selected restaurants nationwide. Check nationalcurryweek.co.uk for the nearest participating restaurant, download the voucher and take it along for a meal.

READY FOR LESS: If you have got to get dinner on the table fast, pop to Sainsbury’s to snap up one of its new premium Indian prepared meals. The Jackfruit Biryani costing £4 comes with spiced basmati rice in a tomato and yoghurt sauce with fried jackfruit, fried onions, roasted pumpkin seeds and red pepper flakes. You could also take advantage of Tesco’s Indian meal deal which offers two mains and two sides for £7.

SIDE DISH SAVVY: Ordering in? Skip pricey sides and make your own or shop around. A naan bread can cost around £1.50 each from your local curry house, but a four-pack of Garlic & Coriander Mini Naans are on sale at Morrisons for £1 (usually £1.70) until October 22. Poppadoms are 55p each at my local take away but it is 75p for eight at Aldi.
