After a month-long hiatus from social media, Cole Sprouse is back encouraging his fans to get out and vote.
“Know I’ve been off of social media for a while,” the 27-year-old actor captioned a black-and-white Instagram photo from a past trip to Tulum, Mexico. “Decided to take a much needed mental health break. I’ve never been the most active user of social media, but even the minor amount I had been engaging during quarantine had become a bit too taxing.”
The “Riverdale” star went on to explain that knowing when to step away is a skill that all younger performers should have.
“Take your breaks,” he continued. “Mental and physical health always come first. In time we’ll all be able to see more clearly what this pandemic actually is- a massive global trauma. The effects of which have, in no small way, been encouraged tremendously by the failings of the US. We’re in the midst of a huge election, and I encourage everyone here in the United States to deeply consider our ‘modern’ medical health care system.”
Sprouse also posted an Instagram Story with instructions on how to vote by mail in the November election.
“I’ll be more active soon my sweet little babies,” he ended the post.
In April, toward the beginning of quarantine, Sprouse took to social media to defend himself against rumors he was dating Kaia Gerber and had possibly cheated on longtime girlfriend Lili Reinhart, telling fans to “eat my delectable plump ass.” However in May, a source confirmed to Page Six that he and his “Riverdale” co-star had in fact split and were quarantining separately.
Then, in June, Sprouse was arrested at a Black Lives Matter protest in Santa Monica, Calif.
“This is precisely the time to contemplate what it means to stand as an ally,” he said on Instagram at the time. “I hope others in my position do as well. I noticed that there are cameras that roll within the police cruisers during the entirety of our detainment, hope it helps.”
Two days later, sexual assault allegations were leveled against Sprouse and some of his “Riverdale” co-stars. Calling them “false accusations,” the actor said he would work with the right teams to get to the root of the accusations.
“This seems to be the latest claim in a series of incidents seeking to baselessly cancel my cast mates and me,” he wrote.
His last post on June 26 read, “A little low pressure system for our high pressure society,” alongside a scenic photo of mountains.
