Did Princess Diana Want More Children? Here's The Sad Reason Why She Didn't Have More

Many people are aware that the late Princess Diana is the mother of Prince William and Prince Harry. She was married to Prince Charles for about 15 years before the couple got divorced because of Prince Charles’ public affair with Camilla Parker-Bowles.

Aside from being a devoted mother to her two sons, Princess Diana also loved children in general. Before joining the royal family, she worked at a kindergarten for some time. As such, a lot of royal followers are no doubt wondering: did Princess Diana want to have more children? If so, why did she not have more? Read on below to find out.

Princess Diana was a kind and nurturing mother

Princess Diana’s parenting style was quite different from many royals back then. While royal family members often believed it was best to be sterner and emotionally distant from their children, Princess Diana wanted to be close to her sons.

Princess Diana liked to travel with her sons and take them places — not only to bond with them but also to show them life outside of their palace. She also was known for bending down to talk to her children (something that Queen Elizabeth still does not agree with to this day) and gave them a lot of hugs. Prince Harry once revealed that his mother gave the best hugs.

“She was very informal and really enjoyed the laughter and the fun,” Prince Harry said in the documentary Diana, Our Mother: Her Life and Legacy.

Princess Diana did want to have more children

According to Ingrid Seward, a royal biographer who talked to Princess Diana a month before her death, Princess Diana did want to have more children. In fact, Seward shared, Prince Harry was often asking his mother to have another child since he did not want to be the youngest in the family any longer.

“She said she’d love more children, and she didn’t see herself being single forever [after her divorce],” Seward said. “Harry wanted her to get married again, but William didn’t. He wanted Diana to be all there for him.”

Princess Diana reportedly wanted to have children with this surgeon

After Princess Diana got a divorce from Prince Charles, she went on to have a relationship with a British-Pakistani surgeon named Hasnat Khan. The two met in 1995 and Princess Diana reportedly “squealed like a schoolgirl” at that time because she thought Khan was so handsome.

Diana seemed to have been very in love with Khan that she tried to learn more about Pakistani culture and even had thoughts about converting to Islam. Allegedly, she also wanted to one day have daughters with Khan.

The couple tried to keep their relationship very much under the radar, though Princess Diana and Khan broke up at some point. The reason for their split has never been fully revealed. Khan’s father did claim that his son told him: “If I married her, our marriage would not last for more than a year. We are culturally so different from each other.”

Princess Diana passed away before she could have more children

After her breakup with Khan, Princess Diana went on to date Dodi Fayed, the son of an Egyptian billionaire. They dated for a few months before both of them were killed in the famous car crash in 1997.

It seems that the reason why Princess Diana did not have more children is simply that she did not have enough time to do so. She officially divorced from Prince Charles in August 1996 only to pass away a year later. That was simply not enough time for her to get married to someone and have children with them.
