Do you have an idea that would be perfect for the Stylist audience?

Do you have an idea that would be perfect for Stylist? Our inbox is open.

At Stylist we are committed to publishing a diverse range of voices and we welcome pitches from freelance writers.

If you are a journalist looking to pitch to Stylist, please consider the following:

All our features have a timely reason for appearing in the magazine and online, as well as a strong feminist angle.

For Stylist magazine, we generally commission features anything from one week to three months in advance of publication, and freelancers should consider pitching for the main features section, rather than the regulars, which tend to be compiled in-house.

On Stylist.co.uk, we look for both long-lead and very punchy, timely commissions. It could be a feature hooked off breaking news which needs to be turned around within the hour, or a lengthy long read with plenty of expert comments and in-depth research behind it.

If you are interested in pitching to Stylist, we look for smart, original, newsworthy journalism, covering women’s lifestyle, feminism, current affairs, social trends, culture, health, careers, relationships, dating, sex and tech.

We are looking for stories that the team would not ordinarily come across in the wider news, so perhaps a niche real life story, an unexpected new trend, or a unique point of view on a current topic. Go on, surprise us!

How to pitch to stylist.co.uk

Features pitches for Stylist.co.uk should be directed towards our digital commissions inbox, [email protected]. Senior members of staff monitor this inbox. If your pitch is urgent, please label it URGENT in the subject line, followed by the suggested headline.

Please consider that we receive hundreds of pitches per day, so do make your email subject line stand out and try to keep pitches to 2-3 paragraphs max.

Due to sheer volume of pitches, we may not reply personally to you, however we will commit to reading and considering every idea that is sent in.

Your pitch should include

-A punchy, Stylist headline (the best pitches have an opener that immediately draws us in)

-A clearly defined angle and a tangible news hook

-Explain why your idea is unique (we receive hundreds of pitches so it is competitive and we’re looking for something that jumps out)

-Information on your previous writing experience or examples of your work

Rarely is a pitch declined because it isn’t a very good idea, rather it is often because we have so many good ideas pitched our way that we don’t have space for them all. Time and budget constraints, flatplan limitations and having recently covered something similar (or having something in the pipeline) are more often the reasons why we don’t commission a particular freelance pitch.

We look forward to hearing from you.
