For all of Michelle’s pregnancies she had suffered with early onset growth restriction, meaning they hadn’t grown as they should have in the womb.

When we first meet Michelle at 24 weeks she’s hopeful that this time her baby will survive and names it Michael, after her last baby who passed away 10 month ago.

However she says: ‘I’ve lost so many babies, I had one earlier this year– its so painful, even for the staff here.’

‘I said to Micheal when he passed away, “come back to me soon” and I didn’t realise how quickly he would.’

Fans of the show on Twitter were ‘heartbroken’ and were sad for Michelle, especially as she’d lost babies in the past.

As baby Micheal is born the doctors fight to save his life, trying to get a heart beat, the stabalisle him for a few hours

At 25 weeks she is wheeled into surgery to give birth, as doctors are worried that her baby won’t survive any longer in the womb.

One of the consultants, Mike, said: ‘I met Michelle for the first time last year when she had a baby born prematurely.

‘It seemed fine to begin with but then he went through a sudden deterioration. Having been through that degree of loss and trauma – she still seems very strong.’

When he’s born, baby Micheal only weighed 390 grams, less than a pound, and about the same size as an orange.

One of the consultants, Mike (pictured) said that he was devastated for her loss and it ‘ruined his Christmas’

The hospital team acted quickly and managed to incubate Micheal, getting a good heart rate and carbon dioxide reading.

But Mike knew is wasn’t good news: ‘My heart dropped – he was much smaller than what we had expected and that it was going to be a challenge and I was very worried.’

And just hours later he’s fears came true as he passed away. One of the other consultants said: ‘Unfortunately he passed away from breathing complications,

‘His lungs were just very very premature and unfortunately even with what we did – we couldn’t sustain life for him.’

While one more simply said: ‘How heartbreaking!!!! Sleep well baby Michael.’

The hospital staff were just as upset, with Mike saying: ‘I was angry and sad for her – when I knew things weren’t going to go well – it ruined my Christmas,’ he said with a tear in his eye.

While another consultant admitted: ‘It devastated us all – the moment you don’t start getting upset about this sort of thing is when you should stop doing this job.’
