Chelsea Clinton has celebrated Halloween early with a throwback photo of her mother, Hillary Clinton, dressed up as a circus clown in honor of her 74th birthday.

The global health advocate took to Twitter on Tuesday to pay tribute to the former secretary of state while sharing the never-before-seen family snapshot of them wearing matching clown costumes.

‘Thank you Mom for being a clown with me for Halloween, supporting all other costume choices throughout the years and always cheering me on,’ Chelsea, 41, wrote.

Close as can be: The global health advocate also thanked her mother for ‘being such a wonderful grandmother’ to her three children, Charlotte, Aidan, and Jasper

‘Most of all, thank you for being such a wonderful grandma. Happy Birthday @HillaryClinton!’ added the former first daughter, who has three children — Charlotte, seven, Aidan, five, and Jasper, two — with her husband Marc Mezvinsky.

The heartwarming snapshot shows Hillary and Chelsea posing in the kitchen in their full-length clown costumes. The funky outfits, which featured plenty of mixed prints, included a ruffled collar and floppy pointed hats.

The mother and daughter, who appeared to be trick-or-treating that night, also had their faces painted. That snapshot was likely taken in Arkansas sometime in the late ’80s or early ’90s.

Hillary rang in her birthday across the pond in England, where she spoke at the Women’s History: The Future event at the University of Oxford. The former first lady was also feeling nostalgic as she reflected on her past.

‘A quarter-century ago, when I declared in Beijing that human rights are women’s rights and that women’s rights are human rights once and for all, it was viewed as a controversial statement. Now it’s a feminist rallying cry,’ she said at the roundtable discussion, People reported.

Hillary also spoke about running against Donald Trump in the 2016 U.S. presidential election, saying: ‘As a candidate, I felt the full force of misogyny. From the blunt sexism of my opponent to the trap of likeability, which seems to only ensnare women.’

While looking back on last year’s presidential election, she said she was encouraged by the number of diverse candidates in the Democratic primary.

However, she found it disheartening ‘to hear the same familiar tropes about women candidates’ speaking styles, voices, authenticity.’

In September, Hillary received an honorary Doctorate of Civil Law from Oxford where her husband, former President Bill Clinton, attended as a Rhodes Scholar. During her speech, she opened up about her first time visiting the university.

‘I had just graduated from law school,’ she said. ‘My then-boyfriend, Bill Clinton, took me to revisit his haunts. We went to University College. It was wonderful. We visited a lot of other places that were interesting. It was a walk down memory lane for him and an immediate feeling of attraction for me.’

The Clintons’ daughter, Chelsea, also opted to study at Oxford after receiving her undergraduate degree at Stanford University.

‘I sat here as a proud parent as Chelsea received her Ph.D. in International Relations,’ she recalled of her daughter’s 2014 graduation.

‘The entire ceremony was in Latin, which I thought was terribly exciting,’ she said. ‘Having taken three years of Latin, I was sending a little prayer to Miss Fisher and Miss Snyder, who had been my teachers, whenever I could recognize a word.’

Hillary took to Instagram on Tuesday to share a throwback photo of herself with Terry McAuliffe, saying her birthday wish was for him to be elected the governor of Virginia again.

McAuliffe, 64, previously served as governor of Virginia from 2014 to 2018.

‘It’s my birthday today, and here’s what I’d like most: For Virginia to elect my dear friend @terrymcauliffe governor again,’ she wrote.

Earlier this month, Hillary’s husband was admitted to the hospital on October 12 after a urological infection caused by E. coli developed into sepsis, a life-threatening reaction to an infection.

The former president’s doctors said that a urinary tract infection developed into urosepsis. He returned home after a five-night stay at the University of California Irvine Medical Center.

On October 20, the 75-year-old released a statement via his official Twitter account, saying he’s ‘really glad to be back home’ and ‘doing great’ after battling sepsis.

‘I was so touched by the outpouring of support I received during my stay in the hospital, thanks so much,’ he said. ‘I’m really glad to be back home, I’m doing great, enjoying this beautiful fall weather.’

‘I’m on the road to recovery but I want to remind everyone out there, take the time to listen to your bodies and care for yourselves,’ he continued. ‘We all have work to do, and each of us has an important role to play in life, and in the immediate future.

‘I for one am going to do my best to be around to keep doing the most that I can for a lot longer.’
