Jeff Bezos gets defamation suit by girlfriend Lauren Sanchez’s brother tossed

Jeff Bezos has something else to be thankful for this Thanksgiving, besides his billions.

The Amazon overlord won’t be facing a defamation lawsuit filed against him by Michael Sanchez, brother of girlfriend Lauren.

Sanchez filed a defamation claim and a claim for intentional infliction of emotional distress in February. A California judge tossed out the lawsuits Friday, the  Wall Street Journal.

The family kerfuffle started in January 2019 when the National Enquirer made public Bezos’ extramarital affair with Lauren Sanchez, the then-wife of his neighbor, mega agent, Patrick Whitesell.

Sanchez claimed Bezos and his security chief, Gavin de Becker, falsely accused him of leaking nude photos of Bezos to the tabloid. Bezos maintains he never accused Sanchez of being the leaker.

The Enquirer’s parent company, American Media Inc., points the finger at Sanchez, asserting he tipped off the tabloid  and “provided all of the materials.”

Lauren Sanchez has called out her brother, accusing him of a “deep and unforgivable betrayal.”

Tom Warren, a lawyer for Sanchez, told the Journal: “We respectfully disagree with the trial court’s ruling and look forward to vindicating Mr. Sanchez’s claims on appeal.”

Bezos attorney William Isaacson commented: “When it comes to frivolous lawsuits seeking money or attention, the law is clear — and the law worked. Journalists will surely take the court’s ruling into account when considering Michael Sanchez as a source.”
