While adults are obviously trying to find their footing amid social distancing and self-quarantining due to the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, children are also feeling jilted. Across the globe, kids have been yanked out of their daily routines. Many are now learning at home remotely.
This is a massive adjustment for kids and parents alike, and like most parents, Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge and Prince William are trying to figure out the best way to navigate this strange time.
Presently, the Cambridges are quarantining at their country home, Anmer Hall with their three children, Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis. Though the children’s nanny, Maria Borrallo, is reportedly with them, that hasn’t stopped the duke and duchess from being very hands-on. In fact, Kate has a strict approach when it comes to her children’s screen-time quarantining.
Prince George and Princess Charlotte have been homeschooled since March 10
As the coronavirus pandemic became more dire, Prince George and Princess Charlotte’s school, Thomas’ Battersea closed on March 10. “From this date [March 10] the curriculum will be taught through online learning platforms and we have asked parents to keep their children at home and to access their lessons through this system,” a spokesperson for the school told Hello! Magazine. “This will ensure that children have continuity of learning when they are unable to attend school.”
Since then, the older Cambridge kids have been home with their baby brother, Prince Louis.
“Someone gave me some very good advice, pre the [Easter] holidays, to fit some structure to keep to a pretty strict routine,” the Duchess of Cambridge recently revealed. “Don’t tell the children, we’ve actually kept it going through the holidays. I felt very mean. And it’s great, there’s so many great tips online and fun activities that you can do with the children, so it hasn’t been all hardcore.”
Prince William and Kate Middleton keep their children on a strict schedule
Though the Cambridges often have to travel for work or have very long days, they’ve done their best to make sure that their children have a routine.
The children have a 7 p.m. bedtime, and they also play outside each and every day no matter what the weather. The Cambridges have also reportedly banned iPads from Kensington Palace.
“They’re very much seen as Mummy [sic] and Daddy’s toys, not for children,” a source explained to Us Weekly. “As two people who grew up without gadgets for entertainment themselves, William and Kate are firm believers in toys, outdoor play, and encouraging an active imagination. They’re very much a normal family.”
Kate Middleton has strict screen rules for her children amid self-quarantine
Since the little royals are at home now, and they do need to use electronics for school, the Cambridge’ screen time rules have been adjusted. However, the duchess still has some stick guidelines in place.
Kate is usually very strict on screen time and keeps it to a minimum,” Vanity Fair royal reporter Katie Nicholl told OK Magazine. “They’ve got climbing frames, swings, and a pond, and each of the children are in charge of their own little patch of the kitchen garden.” Additionally, Nicholl is reporting that the Camrbsiges may spend their days doing “arts and crafts, painting and doing things that aren’t screen-orientated.”
We also know that the kiddos love to help their parents in the kitchen.
