Australian fitness star and CEO of the Sweat empire Kayla Itsines has revealed what her family eats for dinner and the reason why they never serve one meal by itself.

The 29-year-old from Adelaide, South Australia shared two images on Instagram of an incredible spread of healthy food – including a huge salad, sliced beetroot, green beans, potatoes, a type of roasted meat and salmon. 

Kayla said she comes from a ‘big family with lots of different personalities, opinions and tastes’, and for this reason the Itsines ‘rarely eat just one dish’ alone.

‘There’s always at least two salads on the side, and sometimes we have bread and roast vegetables too,’ Kayla captioned the post.

Some of the dishes prepared included a huge salad, sliced beetroot, green beans, potatoes and a type of roasted meat

Kayla said she ‘loves’ this healthy way of eating for several reasons, but mostly because it’s a great way to get ‘lots of variety on your plate’.

‘I love having something fresh alongside a heavier dish and having a mix of flavours. It also means that meals are really balanced and there’s more opportunities to fit vegetables into your diet,’ she wrote.

Preparing several dishes to share will also likely mean there will be leftovers to enjoy the following day for lunch with a fresh salad. 

Breakfast: Banana and oats smoothie

Lunch: Lettuce, feta and tomato wrap

Afternoon snack: Rye crispbreads with cheese and tomato 

Dinner: Sweet potato and black bean enchilada 

But Kayla highlighted the fact that cooking huge portions of food might not be practical of everyone, particularly those who are can’t see their family due to COVID-19 restrictions or those who are only cooking for two people.

‘If you’re cooking for one or two people, I’d recommend just adding a simple side salad to your usual meal. It doesn’t need to be a fancy salad, a simple Greek salad or some roast vegetables is perfect!’ she said.

The social media post has received more than 17,300 ‘likes’ and many Instagram users said the insight is inspirational.

‘Everything looks amazing and super tasty,’ one woman wrote, another added: ‘Looks so delicious!’ 

The standard number of calories an adult should consume each day is 2,000 calories for women and 2,500 for men.
