Many members of the Royal Family have attended university but who is the smartest royal? New research conducted by Oxford Royale, has revealed Meghan Markle is officially the most intelligent member of the Royal Family. So where do the other royal members place?

The Duchess of Sussex, attended Northwestern University in Illinois, back in 1999 and studied there until 2003.

She studied a double major in Theatre and International Relations.

Northwestern University places 30 on a list of 1350+ institutions in the QS World University Rankings.

It is 61 places ahead of the second-best institution attended by a couple of royals in the survey: the University of St Andrew’s.

The research, analysed QS World University Rankings on everything from academic reputation to the faculty-to-student ratio for the institutions attended by key members of the UK Royal Family, to discover which royal is the brightest of all.

As for where Kate Middleton sits on the list, she is part of the royal power couple when it comes to intelligence.

Kate and Prince William placed second and third on the list of most intelligent royals.

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge met and started dating when Kate was studying History of Art and William studying Geography at the University of St Andrews.

St. Andrews ranked 91 out of the 1350+ universities on the QS World list.

Although the royal couple attended the same institution, Kate pips William to the post when it comes to intelligence, getting AAB in her A-Levels, ahead of William’s grades of ABC.

Princess Eugenie is named the UK’s fourth smartest royal.

The Princess studied History of Art and English Literature at Newcastle University, which ranks 134 out of all universities on the QS World University Rankings list, and achieved AAB in her A-Levels.

Despite Eugenie’s sister Princess Beatrice also achieving strong A-Level results (ABB), Princess Eugenie comes out top when it comes to brains, with Newcastle University ranking 327 places above Eugenie’s alma mater: Goldsmith’s.

Peter Phillips and Zara Tindall, the children of Princess Anne, also rank high on the list of most intelligent royals.

The royal siblings both attended Exeter University, which places 149 on QS World University Rankings list.

While Princess Anne never officially attended university, instead deciding to put her Geography A-Level to use and travel on tour with her mother, Queen Elizabeth II, she achieved an honorary degree from the University of Aberdeen.Renowned as the hardest working royal, she also achieved one more A-Level than her brother Prince Charles.

Lady Kitty Spencer also comes high on the list of most intelligent royals.

The niece of Diana, Princess of Wales, and first cousin to Princes William and Harry, Lady Kitty Spencer attended the University of Cape Town in South Africa, where she studied Psychology, Politics and English Literature.

Lady Kitty Spencer, who is the daughter of Princess Diana’s brother, Earl Spencer, is also the only royal on the list to have a master’s degree making her the most academically qualified royal on the list.

A spokesperson for Oxford Royale commented on the findings: “Life as a royal isn’t always an easy job and involves a lot of dealing with extensive scrutiny and life in the public spotlight, and Meghan Markle’s academic strengths have equipped her perfectly for this role.

“While the Duke and Duchess of Sussex may have resigned from their roles as working royals, they have captured the interest and attention of the world, and Meghan’s desire to use her platform to raise awareness over serious world issues reflects her intelligence, analytical mind and educational pedigree.”
