My girlfriend is terrified of her violent ex and it’s ruining our relationship – The Sun

DEAR DEIDRE: MY girlfriend lives with so much fear her ex will come to her house that she wishes he would just beat her up so he gets put away.

She is 21, I am 24. Her ex was violent and abusive.

She ended it 18 months ago and his reaction was to break all the windows of her car.

He was taken to court and found guilty.

Since then he’s been to her place drunk many times, carrying a knife and looking for her.

The police said they would keep an eye out but when he was caught, he got bailed the next day.

I am now off work and with her, so she feels safe.

But I will have to go back soon and all we seem to do is argue.

DEIDRE SAYS: You must both feel so stressed. Try to give one another a hug when things are tense.

Your girlfriend needs to get a non-molestation order, which would make it a criminal offence for him to contact her.

She can get advice from the National Domestic Abuse Helpline (0808 2000 247) or see womensaid.org.uk which has a Live Chat service.

Suggest in the meantime she asks friends and relatives to be on call for her at times he may appear.
