DEAR DEIDRE: I’M worried sick about my little granddaughter who always looks neglected when I see her on FaceTime.

She’s three and still doesn’t talk.

She started pre-school in September but then started having tantrums so my daughter stopped sending her.

I was hoping that mixing with other children would encourage her to talk.

She doesn’t eat well and when I see her online, her hair is like a bird’s nest and she has a constant runny nose and a dirty face.

She seems happy though.

My daughter lives 200 miles away so I can’t see her often.

Should I tackle my daughter about my concerns? I’m 56 and she is 28.

DEIDRE SAYS: Not without seeing your granddaughter properly. It could destroy your relationship with your daughter and granddaughter.

Tell your daughter you’re going to visit, staying nearby if that’s possible.

Once you see your granddaughter, you’ll have a better idea of the situation.

Try to be supportive and suggest your daughter talks with her doctor for help with her daughter’s speech.
