National Trust: How to find National Trust sites near you

National Trust: Ben Bradley slams ‘anti-British rhetoric’

England is now under a national lockdown, and people can only leave their homes for essential reasons. When people do leave their homes, the Government is advising people to stay local. One of the many sites the National Trust manages may be open near you at this time.

The Government is permitting people to leave their homes for exercise currently.

The lockdown guidance for England states: “You should minimise time spent outside your home, but you can leave your home to exercise.

“This should be limited to once per day, and you should not travel outside your local area.”

People can only exercise in public outdoor places by themselves or with members of their own household or support bubble.

However one person can meet with one other person from another household, providing social distancing measures are followed.

Several National Trust gardens, parks and countryside sites are still open for people to exercise during the third national lockdown in England.

On January 5, the National Trust issued an update about opening hours for its many properties and sites during the national lockdown in England.

A statement from the National Trust read: “Following the Prime Minister’s announcement of a new lockdown in England, our gardens, parks and countryside will remain open for local people to exercise.

“The safety of our staff, volunteers and visitors from the nearby community remains our priority.”

National Trust Director-General Hilary McGrady said: “We know how important it will be for people to seek fresh air, space and nature but we urge visitors to stick to the rules and stay local.”

Shops at National Trust sites will not be open at this time, however some cafes may still be offering takeaway refreshments.

In Wales all National Trust places are currently closed, and houses, shops and visitor centres are currently closed in Northern Ireland.

People are being urged to book their visits in advance in line with Covid restrictions.

The National Trust said the booking system remains “to restrict capacity and help with social distancing”, so people should look at the site or property website prior to visiting.

Some car parks for the busiest sites also require booking in advance, but many National Trust car parks don’t require this.

National Trust members can park at sites for free, but non-members will need to pay in car parks where there are pay machines.
