Pet chews through a wooden DOOR before poking its head through

Here’s doggy! Mischievous pet chews through a wooden DOOR before poking her head through in a scene eerily reminiscent of Jack Nicholson’s terrifying moment in The Shining

  • Joanne McCabe captured French bulldog Red peering through a hole in the door
  • Six-year-old dog, based in Glamorgan, had to be separated from her pal Stevie
  • But the pets chewed through the wooden door so they could look at each other

This ‘mischievous’ dog chewed through a wooden door before sticking her head through the gap to spy on her owners – as she appeared to channel Jack Nicholson’s well-known scene in The Shining.

Joanne McCabe’s hilarious photos show ‘wicked soul’ French bulldog Red peering through a hole she made in the solid wood just like the actor did in the famous 1980s horror.

The six-year-old pooch had to be separated from her pal Stevie, four, when she came into season but the duo chewed through the door so they could look at each other.

‘Nosy’ Red also used the spot as a makeshift window to keep an eye on any comings and goings when her owners, of Merthyr Tydfil, Glamorgan, went to work – though it has now finally been replaced with a baby gate.

Joanne said: ‘Somebody commented saying it reminds them of The Shining – I was like “oh yeah, she looks a bit like that”. I was quite shocked when I saw the door.

‘Red poked her head through the door to have a nose and to see what’s going on – her face looked so inquisitive, or sad I suppose. She’s very nosy and follows me everywhere – if I put the shower on she’s in there before me – she’s my shadow.

‘They’d always poke their head through the door to see who’s come in and would also do it when I was leaving to go to work.’

Joanne had to separate the pair whilst Red was in season and it took the pair just two or three nights to gnaw the hole through their kitchen door, with Stevie doing the majority of the chewing.

It’s since been replaced by a wooden baby gate, but for six months the ‘mischievous’ pair utilised the hole as a look-out.

Joanne said: ‘Red was two when she had Stevie and her first season or two didn’t bother him, but as he grew older he wanted a slice of the action but he wasn’t getting it.

‘They’re so curious and funny, but stubborn – they’re personalities are very unique. She’s very spoilt – she has to have a blanket over her head and will scratch me for me to put my cardigan or a blanket over her.’

The 47-year-old said that Stevie takes after his late father Doug and is an ‘absolute gem’ but his mother on the other hand keeps them all on their toes.

Joanne said: ‘Red has always been bonkers – she’s such a character and is funny as heck. She goes off on a mad one and Stevie just looks at her as if to say “what on earth are you doing?”

‘I’ve come home from work and found her in the tumble dryer and the first Christmas we had her I was cooking in the kitchen and opened one of the drawers to find her sitting in the drawer.

‘A soft burger toy was Doug’s favourite and if he had it, she couldn’t be in the room because she’d take it off him and rip it to shreds – she’s a wicked soul. I’ve had dogs all my life, but I’ve never had dogs like these.’
