In some not-so-spooktacular news, Universal Orlando and Universal Studios Hollywood have announced that they will hold off on this year’s Halloween Horror Nights events in order to focus exclusively on safely operating the theme parks for daytime guests amidst COVID-19 concerns. A pop-up on the Halloween Horror Nights website reads: “We know this decision will disappoint our fans and guests. We are disappointed, too. But we look forward to creating an amazing event in 2021.”
The beloved event, which draws massive crowds every year, usually features multiple haunted houses and scare zones, many of which are themed after popular TV shows and movies. In the last few years, Halloween Horror Nights has had houses including Stranger Things, The Shining, Killer Klowns From Outer Space, Us, and more.
The news comes shortly after Universal Orlando reopened its doors to guests in June, implementing a set of new guidelines to ensure the safety of guests and park employees. Universal Studios Hollywood has yet to announce a reopening date, but both parks plan to host Halloween Horror Nights in 2021, which means there’s plenty of time to book tickets for next year’s fangtastic events.
According to the Universal Orlando website, park guests who have already purchased tickets for 2020’s Halloween Horror Nights will be able to request a refund or apply their tickets and vacation packages to next year’s events.
