Video of ‘Jeopardy!’ host Alex Trebek cursing a blue streak goes viral

What is “Cursing like a sailor”?

Since the death of beloved “Jeopardy!” host Alex Trebek on Sunday, tributes and memories have poured in — including a supercut of potty-mouthed outtakes from promotional spots that Trebek shot for a telephone version of the game show.

“No host likes shooting promos, especially for a phone version of their hit game show, but Trebek did them with good humor. So long, Alex, and f–k ’em,” The Found Footage Festival captioned the 29-second resurfaced clip, posted Monday, of Trebek cursing a blue streak with a corded landline phone in his hand. The tweet has gone viral, racking up more than 4.6 million views as of Friday morning.

“So keep watching ‘Jeopardy!’ 24 hours a day and call this number … You dumb son of a b—h, you don’t watch it 24 hours a day,” a stone-faced Trebek — who was 80 when he died — says at the start of the clip.

“There’s a daily cash prize of $1,000 and f–k,” he says later, with barely any pause before cursing again and walking off.

The comments are full of fans reacting with delight and mild surprise.

“This is literally the first time I’ve heard him swear and it’s so pure,” commented one viewer. “And also strange.”

“Oh my. I’ll have to make sure my mother has a fainting couch handy before sending her this,” responded another.

The Found Footage Festival, formed in 2004, showcases videos unearthed at “garage sales and thrift stores and in warehouses and dumpsters across the country,” according to its website.

Other vintage shots of Trebek have also surfaced since his passing, including pictures of the 1970s mustache and perm that landed him the iconic game show gig.

This Saturday, the Game Show Network will honor the Canadian native with a six-hour marathon. “Join us as we celebrate Alex Trebek and his legacy,” the channel wrote Tuesday in a tweet about the tribute. “He was truly in a category of his own.”
