Festive Britons are most thankful for their partners at Christmas, a study has revealed.

But while romantic couples gaze into each other’s eyes on December 25 – their internet connection and a good night’s sleep is also not far from their minds, the research has revealed.

While one in three Brits (33%) admit the festive season will be financially challenging, with 64% having to scale back their Christmas expenses.

Britons grateful for time with their partners tops the list at 57%, with their mothers coming second at 40%.

However, being able to relax in your own bed is something 39% of us value the most.

With many struggling financially this winter, food is also high on the agenda – 39% of Brits are most grateful for a fully stocked fridge and cupboards, as well as having access to hot meals.

Access to the internet is important to us this Christmas with 38% of people valuing their time online, followed by 36% of Britons putting their smartphones at the top of the list.

One in three of Brits (36%) said they can’t imagine life without it. 

Hot showers or baths are also important with 38% of us saying they value them at Christmas.

The research suggests that we value being able to watch TV (36%) over being able to put the heating on (35%).

Siblings and dads are a lot lower down the list than mums, with 33% and 31%, followed by furry friends at 30%. 

Almost two thirds (64%) think this Christmas will be tougher financially than last year, yet less than half (48%) are taking fewer things for granted as a result.

While 39% admit that they think more about those who are experiencing poverty in the winter, than any other season.

Books (25%), films (24%), nature (24%) and hugs (22%) also make it into the top 25, closely followed by holidays abroad (21%). 

An oven is at number 22, with 20% of us being most thankful to make our own hot meals, meanwhile 19% are grateful they have a vehicle to get around in.

Just about making it into the list are access to medication (19%) and finally a comfy sofa (17%).
