You’ve been cleaning wrong – experts say you should always use S-wipe method

Have you been cleaning your home wrong for years?

If you wipe cloths over surfaces in a side to side motion, the answer is yes.

According to experts, doing this can actually lead to you spreading more dirt.

You should actually be using an “S-shape” movement to get the best results.

Dr Braverman and Dr Hanouka, former NHS doctors and infection control experts, told Ideal Home: “Cleaning surfaces haphazardly, staring in the middle or bottom, and wiping up or down acts to spread germs.

“Working from the top to bottom is the most effective way to wipe, but currently, only 60% of people are using that method.”

Another mistake people make is not being strategic about which areas of their home they clean first.

It’s important not to scrub at the dirtiest areas first – because doing this trails residue across the rest of the house.

Instead, tackle cleaner corners before moving onto grimier places.

You should also make sure your surfaces are dry before putting anything on top of them.

Failing to do this can mean products don’t work as effectively.

Follow the instructions on the cleaning items you are using in order to get the best results.
