Celeb age gap couples – Olivia Wilde and Harry Styles to George and Amal Clooney

Huge age gaps have often been a trend in relationships in Hollywood – after all everyone has followed the enduring love stories of Harrison Ford and Calista Flockhart and Michael Douglas’ marriage to Welsh beauty Catherine Zeta-Jones.

On the other side of the spectrum, A-List superstar Leonardo DiCaprio has often been seen in relationships with women decades his junior.

Some of the current flavours of the month have at least a decade between them, such as Hollywood heavyweights Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds or Nick Jonas and Priyanka Chopra.

Meanwhile the industry seems to have followed suit this side of the pond too, as reality TV star Katie Price is currently loved-up with her younger beau Carl Woods, and TOWIE’s Lauren Goodger is happily romancing Charles Drury, despite her initial fears about dating someone over a decade younger than her.

And as Olivia Wilde marks her birthday today (March 10) and her new romance with former One Direction hunk Harry Styles is hot on everyone's minds, Daily Star takes a look into some of the biggest relationship age gaps in entertainment.

Olivia Wilde and Harry Styles

Olivia, 36, and Harry, 27, are one of the most unexpected couplings to come out of 2020 and the coronavirus pandemic.

The unlikely duo met on the new movie Don’t Worry Darling, which stars the singer and Little Women actress Florence Pugh in the lead roles and is directed by Olivia.

They were spotted holding hands at a mutual friend’s wedding last month before a source revealed they’d already been dating for a few weeks by that point.

Now the actor and director has posted a gushing tribute to the Watermelon Sugar singer, praising him for "relishing the opportunity to allow for the brilliant @florencepugh to hold centre stage" on the movie.

"He didn't have to join our circus, but he jumped on board with humility and grace, and blew us away every day with his talent, warmth, and ability to drive backwards," Olivia finished.

With Olivia set to celebrate her birthday later this month, perhaps the couple will finally use the opportunity to make things official on social media.

Before her new romance, Olivia was engaged to Jason Sudeikis for seven years, and they were together for nine.

Despite their nine-year age-gap and never officially tying the knot, the pair appeared to be one of the rare long-lasting couples in Hollywood.

At one stage, Olivia even revealed on her Twitter page that the comedian was "the love of my life".

Sadly, it was not to be, as they split early last year, with a source telling PEOPLE at the time that their break-up was "amicable" and their priority was their two young children Otis Alexander and Daisy Josephine.

Amal Clooney and George Clooney

  • Nicola Peltz shares secret video of fiancé Brooklyn Beckham gushing that she's his 'idol'

George Clooney was one of the most instantly-recognisable names in a room when he met his wife Amal, who was a relatively-unknown human rights lawyer based in the UK.

The couple first met in 2013 through a mutual friend at a charity fundraiser, and it appeared the whirlwind romance was just that as they got married only a year later in a sumptuous wedding ceremony in the Italian city of Venice.

Fans had often wondered whether the 59-year-old Ocean’s 11 star would ever settle down, until he met Amal, who is 17 years younger than him.

The happy pair now have twin children Alexander and Ella and reside in their English countryside abode.

Rosie Huntington-Whiteley and Jason Statham

  • Meghan Markle fans convinced she's 'channelling Suits character' in latest appearance

Model actress Rosie Huntington-Whiteley, 33, and action star Jason Statham, 53, are one of the most gorgeous pairings in the UK, and there is a whopping 20 years age difference between them.

The Victoria’s Secret angel met the brooding star at the famous Californian festival Coachella in 2010, and immediately hit it off.

It wasn’t long before the bombshell went on to hint at her desires for a family, as she told Elle UK in 2012: "I always see myself working, but definitely being a mum will be a big part of me."

Five years later the impossibly gorgeous couple made their dreams come true and had a son called Jack.

Michael Douglas and Catherine Zeta-Jones

  • Jennifer Aniston's raunchiest ever sex scenes – from stripping nude to lesbian romps

Michael Douglas, 76, and 51-year-old Catherine Zeta-Jones are another favourite among the Hollywood elite, who make their marriage work despite a 25-year age gap.

Apparently against the odds, the superstar couple have now been married over 20 years and share two children.

Despite their differences, the soulmates have one very eerie thing in common – they were both born on September 25 exactly 25 years apart. If that isn’t fate then what is?

Once asked what the secret is to keeping their marriage alive for so long, the former Darling Buds of May actress shared a very simple trick.

"Every woman and every man should have her and his own bathroom. The end," she declared.

Leonardo DiCaprio and Camila Morrone

  • Inside Johnny Depp and Amber Heard's divorce from severed finger to 'poo on bed'

Leonardo DiCaprio is arguably one of the most bankable working actors in Hollywood – it’s truly rare the Titanic lead releases a film that flops these days.

Outside of his enormous and continued success in his career, it had become something of a theme amongst his colleagues that the environmentalist continually embarked on relationships with women many years his junior.

What’s more, he rarely appeared keen to settle down, until he met Camila Morrone in 2017.

The Argentinian actress is 23 years younger than her 46-year-old beau, but the couple still seem to be going strong more than three years later, with Leo even bringing her as his date to the Oscars in 2020 – his first date to an awards show since 2005.

Defending their age difference to the LA Times, Camila said: "There’s so many relationships in Hollywood – and in the history of the world – where people have large age gaps. I just think anyone should be able to date who they want to date."

E! News recently claimed the couple have coped incredibly well throughout the lockdowns over the past year, assuring: "Leo and Cami are still going strong and doing really well. He's very cozy with Cami and they're serious."

Harrison Ford and Calista Flockhart

  • Inside week Pamela Anderson moved in with Joe Swash – but she 'wasn't his type'

Star Wars movie star Harrison Ford first met Ally McBeal actress Calista Flockhart at the 2002 Golden Globes.

Despite having completely different career trajectories and a wealth of opposite experiences the unusual duo were drawn to each other inexplicably.

They dated for eight years, before finally tying the knot in 2010, and they also have a son called Liam together.

The couple have regularly been quizzed on their unlikely lasting relationship, but they’ve held steadfast in the face of scepticism.

Calista, 56, even called their 22-year age gap a "non-issue" in 2017, as she admitted: "The truth is, I sometimes feel very much older than Harrison."

That wasn’t always the case, as the Brothers and Sisters actress thought long and hard about their match at the beginning, but she’s said it was hopeless trying to resist the pull of their connection.

"I remember thinking: 'This is ridiculous, he’s way too old for me, I’m way too young.' But you can’t help who you fall in love with, and I fell in love with him.

"It might be an issue in the future, but as of now, it really hasn’t been," Calista added. "I like to tease him about it. I use it against him. He’s lived a very long time, you know. He knows everything. I say, 'Yes honey, you’re very old, we know that.'"

Lauren Goodger and Charles Drury

  • Celebrity babies born in 2021 so far – and pregnant stars who are due later in the year

Over in the UK, TV stars seem convinced by the famous movie actors making it work in Hollywood, as lots of fan-favourites are jumping on the bandwagon.

TOWIE star Lauren Goodger, 34, took the plunge with her boyfriend Charles Drury last year despite him being 11 years younger than her.

And after only three months of dating, the couple, who are still in the honeymoon phase, are now expecting their first child together.

Lauren recently revealed it was actually her friends who gave her the push to give the relationship a go, as she said: "I always thought he was lovely but he is a little bit younger than me. But he is very mature."

The couple even battled adversity in the initial days of their relationship, unable to see each other in person due to the nation-wide UK lockdown.

"We were speaking on the phone and FaceTiming quite a bit. It was a friendly, flirty thing. We were friends before anything happened between us," she told The Sun at the time, before sharing how sweet and nostalgic his proposal to make things official between them had been.

Lauren has since said she and Charles couldn’t believe it when they found out she was pregnant, but it’s the "right time" for them.

In response to the trolling she’s received, the TV personality added: "At the end of the day we are happy, we are having a baby, keep your opinions to yourselves and f**k off."

Katie Price and Carl Woods

  • Katie Price's 'week of hell' as pals say her 'life will never be the same again'

Katie Price, 42, has faced a number of disappointments in her relationships over the years, and has often returned to focus on her main priority – her five children Harvey, Princess, Junior, Jett and Bunny when things haven’t worked out.

The reality TV star then faced her most difficult struggle yet last year with her mental health, and Katie finally made the healthy decision to check in to The Priory rehab centre for treatment.

Along her journey, the mum-of-five met her guiding light – 31-year-old Carl Woods, who’s 11 years her junior.

The loved-up couple only started dating in June, but Katie is convinced she has found the love of her life.

Sharing a recent tribute to her boyfriend for his birthday on Instagram, the I'm A Celebrity…Get Me Out Of Here! star gushed: "From the moment you came in my life things changed and I knew you was my forever I absolutely love you."

Katie and Carl recently celebrated a romantic first Valentine’s Day together, which Carl dubbed "amazing" on social media.

Katie’s ex-husband Peter Andre is also coincidentally in a large age-gap relationship with his wife Emily MacDonagh, who’s 17 years younger than him.

The couple met in 2010 in a bizarre occurrence that saw her dad treat the Mysterious Girl singer for kidney stones, and the rest is history.

Speaking to OK! magazine in 2017 about their relationship, Emily insisted that age is just a number, and added: "If you are compatible as a couple then your age is completely irrelevant."

Best of the rest

Music royalty Beyonce Knowles-Carter and Jay Z have 12 years between them, but they’ve been married for nearly 13 years and have three beautiful children together.

Movie star Alec Baldwin, 62, married his 36-year-old yoga instructor wife Hilaria in 2012 and the couple have since welcomed five children to the world.

Happiness also abounds with Gossip Girl star Blake Lively, 31, and her movie star hubby Ryan Reynolds, 42.

The pair have become the pinnacle of love to aspire to and are definitely relationship goals, still seemingly just as head over heels for each other as the day they met.

And last but definitely not least, Marvel’s very own immortal Wolverine Hugh Jackman, 50, has enjoyed a life mostly out of the limelight for the last 18 years with his beloved wife Deborra Lee-Furness, who is 13 years older than him.

Hugh regularly posts adoring messages and tributes to his wife, and the couple raise their two adopted children together.

There are many more Hollywood and British celeb couples making it work with eyebrow-raising age gaps, and there forever will be.

After all, does it really matter when it comes to love how old you are?
