Dolly Parton is a massive supporter of Miley Cyrus and a friend to Billy Ray Cyrus. She even spent time with artist Andy Warhol, admiring his “weird” personality. Here’s what we know about the “Jolene” singer and her visits to Studio 54.
Queen of Country Dolly Parton visited Studio 54 and ‘hang out’ with Andy Warhol and Calvin Klein
Parton spent time with other celebrities outside of her country music stardom, especially at clubs like Studio 54. It was there that she “hung out” with Warhol – the American artist, film director, and producer also known as a leader in the visual art movement known as pop art.
“I used to go to Studio 54 all the time and hang out with Andy Warhol and Calvin Klein and so many people,” Parton wrote in her 2020 book Dolly Parton, Songteller: My Life in Lyrics. “Steve Rubell, who owned Studio 54, I just loved him to death. He was the sweetest little guy.”
“Everybody was dancing,” she continued. “I didn’t. I just liked watching, sitting there, and being part of the whole scene. I’d just sit on the couch and talk to Andy Warhol.”
Dolly Parton said that Andy Warhol was the only person ‘weirder’ than she is
Aside from his reputation in the modern art community, Warhol was famous for his bold fashion and hair choices. Parton herself was known for sporting unique hairstyles. It made sense that these two celebrities were friends with one another, with Parton particularly admiring his “weird” personality.
“We used to go to Studio 54 together years ago,” Parton recalled during a 2001 interview as recorded in the book Dolly on Dolly. “He was the only person I’ve ever met who’s weirder than me, that dressed worse and looked stranger — and didn’t care: just like me.”
“I would always ask him: ‘What do you look like under that wig?’ and he’d reply: ‘What do you look like under that one?’ I’d say: ‘Well, you’ll never know,’ and he’d say: ‘Well, you’ll never know either,’” she continued.
Although Warhol died in 1987, his legacy lives on with his collection of pop art, with some pieces available for viewing at the Andy Warhol Museum in Pittsburgh.
Dolly Parton has several celebrity friends, including Billy Ray Cyrus and Miley Cyrus
Aside from Warhol, Parton befriended several celebrities throughout her career. She starred in a holiday special with the a capella group Pentatonix. She also had a cameo in Disney Channel’s Hannah Montana, starring alongside her real-life family friends, Billy Ray and Miley Cyrus.
According to One Country, other award-winning artists wished Parton a happy birthday in 2016. That included Golden Hour musician Kacey Musgraves and Willie Nelson. Even Legally Blonde’s Reese Witherspoon posted a picture of herself spending time with the Queen of Country.
