Kate Garraway supported by fans after mean troll slammed Derek doc as ‘shameful’

Kate Garraway has been showered with messages of support following a hateful comment from a troll about the Finding Derek documentary.

The Good Morning Britain presenter has faced a hellish year after her husband Derek Draper, 53, spent the last 12 months in hospital fighting for his life after his coronavirus diagnosis.

He uttered his first words in October, though Kate was left devastated as he had mouthed the word "pain" when doctors had been moving his body and asked whether it hurt.

And although Derek is now free of the deadly bug, the disease has wreaked havoc on his body as he continues to fight for his life while Kate picks up the pieces.

As Derek recovers from his poorly condition, Kate in the meantime filmed a powerful yet poignant documentary for ITV about her husband's journey.

In the documentary, Kate shared personal footage she filmed herself as Derek underwent rehab.

But as countless fans rushed to share a sweet message of support for the mum-of-two during this difficult time, one troll did the opposite and slammed her decision to film the doc.

  • Corrie's Catherine Tyldesley 'fuming' at Krispy Kreme's promotion amid obesity crisis

"Absolutely shameful that Kate would film this! It's more Kate The journalist rather than Kate Garraway the wife," the cruel keyboard warrior penned.

It wasn't long before fans rushed to Kate's defence after the mean comment was posted.

"You couldn’t be more wrong with your comment. She is a true inspiration," wrote one fan, before another penned: "If you can be anything #BeKind I hope Derek’s children can’t read your silly negativity."

  • Kris Jenner 'wishes she could go back' to modest home she shared with Robert Kardashian

"Must have been watching a different programme. She came across as a loving wife and mum," a third added, while a fourth wrote: "What a horrific and heartless comment. Why bother."

GMB co-host and friend of more than 20 years Ben Shephard wrote: "So proud of my friend @kategarraway she continues to surprise, delight, occasionally infuriate but always inspire me. Thinking of Kate, her family and anyone who is battling Covid or has lost someone close to them to the virus. #FindingDerek."

Piers Morgan called the documentary "heartbreaking" before sharing an image of Nelson Mandela and the quote "It always seems impossible until it's done", to which Piers added: "Love you @kategarraway."

  • Jennifer Aniston fans think she's secretly back with ex John Mayer after spotting 'clue'

GMB's Charlotte Hawkins added: "Thinking of my lovely friend @kategarraway tonight with her documentary #FindingDerek on @ITV at 9pm. It’s so heartbreaking, we’re all just praying Derek will find a way back. Please watch & send love to Kate & her family."

Martin Lewis said: "It's very difficult watching #FindingDerek but nothing compared to living it. Kate 's positivity and perseverance is so powerful. I just keep trying to grab glimpses of the quick, witty, warm Derek I remember. To see his anxiety and confusion is horrible. I pray he' s found."
