Martin Freeman's ex-wife Amanda Abbington has expressed concern that their kids will need therapy at some point down the line.
Martin and Amanda – who played husband and wife John and Mary Watson in the BBC's Sherlock – split in 2016 after 16 years together.
They share son Joe, 15, and daughter Grace, 12.
Amanda, speaking on an Instagram Live for the It's OK mental health campaign for which she's an ambassador, explained that she and Martin aim to cultivate an open atmosphere where they can discuss any struggles they're going through.
The Sun reports she said: "I think it's unsettling if I pretend I’m this Stepford Wife parent.
"Nobody is. I'm sure I've given them irreparable damage and they will be going to therapy because of me and Martin at some point.
"That's what I am striving for and what Martin strives for as well — to create a place where they're not hiding anything."
Since their split five years ago, Amanda and Martin have remained close and on good terms for the benefit of Joe and Grace.
They did reveal that it was "no fun" working on Sherlock together after they'd decided to call time on their marriage.
Amanda added that she wouldn't hide "bad days" from her kids so they don't think mental health struggles are "offensive or shouldn't happen."
Elsewhere in the chat, Amanda revealed how distressing it had been for her son to read death threats made against her online.
"The idea that someone has the mentality to throw those things out to people without even thinking the ripple effect of that," she pondered.
"It's the casual hate I find really upsetting."
