Meet James Newman – UK’s Eurovision 2021 contestant

James Newman will be permitting his song Embers at the grand final of the Eurovision Song Contest on Saturday, May 22.

The musician has been given a second shot at representing the UK for Eurovision 2021, after the music contest was cancelled in 2020 due to the coronavirus pandemic.

He will perform a new song that he wrote during lockdown, due to the fact that the songs from last year will no longer be eligible.

James was due to sing his original song My Last Breath, hut in February 2021 it was confirmed Newman would again represent the UK.

So who is James Newman? Here we take a closer look at his career and family life ahead of the Eurovision final.

Who is James Newman?

James Newman, 35, is a London-based multi-award winning, multi-platinum selling singer-songwriter.

He grew up in Settle, North Yorkshire with his brother John and their mother Jackie.

The brothers were brought up by his mum after their father left when James was six years old.

You may have already heard of his brother John Newman, who went on to become a chart-topping solo artist. His track Love Me Again reached No 1 in 2013.

The brothers were reportedly influenced by Motown and Stax, which their mother would frequently listen to at home.
