U2 icon Adam Clayton is unrecognisable with long hair after huge transformation

U2 musician Adam Clayton has sent his fans into a frenzy after being spotted looking totally different.

The bass player, who turned 61 in March, was snapped as he was out and about in London and was completely unrecognisable from his rock star days.

Adam usually sports short fair hair but the pictures showed that his tresses are now snow white and reach his shoulders.

The Irish star has also grown a moustache and a bushy beard, and he donned a smart grey coat which was a far cry from his rock star days.

Snaps of Adam with his new look have also emerged on social media and plenty of people think the U2 star's more distinguished image is a winner.

"Keep this look!" one person posted on an Instagram fan page.

"Wow! Liking the longer hair," said another.

"Look at all that wisdom and experience flowing ever so elegantly off the elder statesman," one admirer posted.

"You weren't bad looking before, but you look really hot now!" said another impressed fan.

"A good looking man… he ages very well," said another.

"Still suave as usual. He looks great!!" said another.

One jokingly asked whether Adam might be the new Doctor Who, now that Jodie Whittaker is stepping down from the role.

"Another 6 months and then it looks like Karl Marx," quipped another.

One person said they didn't like the fact that the new style made the star looked "older and depressed", adding: "Not my fave!"

Adam has been in the public eye since the late 70s, when he found fame in the band U2 alongside Bono, The Edge and Larry Mullen Jr.

The rockers have released 14 albums and have had a string of massive hits such as Where The Streets Have No Name, Hold Me, Thrill Me, Kiss Me, Kill Me and Beautiful Day.
