BBC Breakfast's Victoria Fritz baffles viewers with sudden name change – but soon explains why | The Sun

BBC Breakfast host Victoria Fritz has left fans baffled with a sudden name change.

The BBC One show anchor, 38, is standing in for Sally Nugent, 51, and has so far received high praise from fans.

Yet followers of the former BBC Global News host were left scratching their heads as she announced herself as Victoria Valentine on Wednesday.

One fan took to Twitter to quiz: "Anyone surprised by Victoria Fritz name change? What's that about? #bbcbreakfast"

She replied on her account, with the message: "Hello. You may notice a little change today. If you are wondering why, here are a few words."

Victoria then linked to a blog post that read: "The reasons for the breakdown of my marriage are private. I have two wonderful young children to consider. Protecting their wellbeing and right to a private life will always be my priorities.

"Yet, however private I wish to keep my private life, there is an aspect of it that will always remain as much in public hands as it is in my own. And that is my name.

"Here’s the rub. It no longer fits. It doesn’t fit the person that has emerged nor does it truthfully describe the future ahead of me.

"In the re-casting and the re-crafting, I’ve discovered my name matters. And so I am changing it."

Victoria told how she would now be taking her Dubliner mother's maiden name going forward.
