Celebs Respond to Amy Schumer's Post About Going Back To Work Now That She's A Mom

Comedian and actress Amy Schumer has been documenting her journey through pregnancy and motherhood on social media. Posting images and commentary that moms are loving due to Schumer’s sheer honesty and authenticity, the film star recently shared her conflicting feelings about returning to work.

A tough pregnancy

Schumer married chef Chris Fischer in February 2018. The two welcomed son Gene in May of this year. The actress suffered from  hyperemesis gravidarum throughout her pregnancy, a condition that causes extreme vomiting and nausea in pregnant women, which can result in severe dehydration or weight loss, according to Today.com. Kate Middleton, Duchess of Cambridge, battled the condition with each of her three children.

At one point, Schumer was hospitalized for the illness and asked her followers to send her pics of their kids and dogs to cheer her up. “The last few days have been tough. I’m grateful as hell and know it’s temporary but tough just the same,” she wrote on Instagram. “Please if you don’t mind. Post pics of your kids and tag me #amyschumer My friends sending me pics and vids of their kids is making me feel so much better. Much love accepting dog photos too.”

Back to work

Schumer recently posted about returning to work and the struggle she felt leaving baby Gene behind. “Five months today and like all moms I love him so much it hurts,” she posted on Instagram. “I’m feeling strong and good and like I’m still a human being with interests and ambitions and goals I’m excited to reach. It’s felt good to be back at work.”

The comedian shared her conflicting feelings on being a working mom, missing her son yet enjoying being back on the job. “I was so worried about it and was afraid to go back after he was 3 months old,” Schumer revealed. “A couple days I’ve cried from missing him. But it’s mostly good to be back and the breaks energize me to be a better mom and appreciate our time even more.”

Schumer never expressed any self-pity, noting that she’s fortunate to have the support she does. “I have it a lot easier than many people but I wanted to share my experience. ,” she wrote, asking fans to share their own experiences returning to work after becoming a mom.

Celebs posting support

Many celebrities responded to Schumer’s post, offering comments of encouragement as well as giving some of their own personal stories.

“I didn’t care about anything. Everything seemed trivial if it wasn’t about my kids. But after time, things fall into the new place. Not the old. Old is gone. Forever changed by a love that is indescribable!” actress Drew Barrymore wrote. “And it just seems to get better and better every day! I am no longer interested in myself as me. It’s being their mom. That’s who I am now. Your [sic] are such a cool person Amy! Your kid is gonna he [sic] so proud of you!”

Will & Grace star Debra Messing also posted about her own experience. “I went back to W&G but was lucky I could bring him everyday so every bathroom break I’d hold him and I was able to breastfeed. But on show night? Omg, my body hurt from his absence,” Messing revealed. “I felt a physical yearning, and I questioned myself, and felt guilty, and would cry. It was hard. I’d feel such moments of joy making people laugh. I’d get lost in the work and it energized me and empowered me… It’s hard, being a working mom. But I believe that we are better mom’s when we are able to do what fulfills us. One hour at a time, Amy. ❤️”

Others simply voiced their support and agreement on Schumer’s post. “This is so important to say. ✨✨,” wrote Today Show’s Jenna Bush Hager.
