Strictly Come Dancing was back for one final time in 2021 for the Christmas special episode, which saw a group of famous faces take to the dancefloor for a one-off episode of the BBC series. However, some viewers were left distracted by host Claudia Winkleman’s appearance. Fans were quick to take to social media to comment on the presenter’s outfit, with the dress dividing opinion.
Strictly favorite Claudia sported a cream-coloured, layered dress on the special show.
Many tuning in from home were surprised at the style of the outfit, with several taking to Twitter to share their thoughts.
Twitter user Lil Ms Mally wrote: “Claudia looks like lampshade… #Strictly.”
Same Old Marky penned: “I see Claudia had come dressed as a dishcloth… #Strictly.”
@uisgebeatha shared: “Claudia channelling a loo roll cover there #Strictly #scd.”
Others loved the festive look though, with GO_Ann commenting: “Claudia looking very pure Sennek #Strictly #Eurovision.”
“I love Claudia’s dress,” posted Sparkly Stella Christmas tree.
Last Single Grinch added: “I love Claudia’s dress.”
“Love Claudia’s dress but the lilac shoes let it down #strictly,” Andrew remarked.
Claudia opened the show alongside her co-host Tess Daly, who was sporting white trousers and a sparkly top.
She commented: “Welcome to Strictly Come Dancing – the Christmas special.”
“Merry Christmas, everyone!”
“A huge thank you to choreographer Jenny Thomas, our Christmas cast and Jamie Cullum for that brilliant start to the show,” Claudia added.
Tess continued: “And we have got more treats coming up, including a very special yuletide performance from Gary Barlow.”
It was then time to introduce the celebs of the show, with Claudia stating: “Six brand-new stars will take to the floor, hoping to impress our festive foursome.”
Judges Oti Mabuse, Craig Revel Horwood, Anton Du Beke and Shirley Ballas were back to observe how the celebrities got on.
They included Mel Giedroyc, Adrian Chiles, Moira Stewart, Anne-Marie, Fred Sirieix and Jay Blades.
“Our six couples are backstage, ready to come out and light up the ballroom,” Tess commented.
The festive special comes one week after the 2021 finale, which saw EastEnders star Rose Ayling-Ellis crowned winner.
Strictly Come Dancing’s Christmas special is available to watch on BBC iPlayer.
