Imran Habeeb was in a dark place when he spent the night with an unknown woman following the verdict at Kelly Neelan’s (Millie Gibson) trial in Coronation Street – and Charlie de Melo, who plays him, has warned that the lawyer could lose Toyah Battersby (Georgia Taylor) for good.
Viewers are currently unaware of the identity of the person Imran slept with but Charlie has indicated that it may come as a surprise and will cause some huge trouble down the line.
He told Metro.co.uk: ‘Viewers are going to be shocked, given some of the revelations that are going to come out! It compounds how bad he is feeling on the night of the verdict.
‘Sabeen said at want point he had found comfort in another’s arms but this is completely the opposite. He has made himself easily the least comfortable he could be!’
And the actor has warned that it will most definitely put Imran and Toyah’s future at risk.
He sighed: ‘It’s a huge risk; they have one of the sturdier relationships on the street and have been remarkably uncontroversial. They have had a trustful and supportive home life so for him to upset that balance and to blatantly lie about it and, in my personal view, he has been gaslighty at times.
‘He has told her she is being ridiculous and made her feel bad for looking in the first place. That’s an extraordinarily bad choice of judgement for him.’
He added reflectively: ‘You tend to have a level of vanity you have for your character and not want them to look bad but sometimes you have to swallow the pill and accept it!
‘It’s not, what would Charlie do, it’s what would Imran do – and he deserves a good slap for this! It’s certainly going to be very difficult for them to keep things going? Why would you want to keep going, if you were in Toyah’s shoes? It’s a huge betrayal!’
