Doctor Who and Last Of The Mohicans star Maurice Roëves dies aged 83

Doctor Who actor Maurice Roëves, also known for his roles in Judge Dredd and Last Of The Mohicans, has died at the age 83.

His agent confirmed the news today in a statement released on Twitter.

They wrote: ‘It is with great sadness that we can confirm the passing of our wonderful client Maurice Roëves.

‘Maurice had a hugely successful career in both theatre and screen which spanned several decades, starting in his home country of Scotland and moving to London and the United States. ‘

‘As well as being a truly dedicated and gifted actor, he was also a real gentleman and a delight to have as a client,’ they continued.

‘We will miss him greatly and our thoughts and love go out to Vanessa and his family.’

His cause of death is not known.

Maurice’s career was impressive and varied, appearing in blockbuster films and cult classics as well as TV roles spanning over 50 years.

Raised in Glasgow, Scotland, the star has been working since 1966 – playing Stotz in the original Doctor Who run in 1984, capturing Peter Davison’s Fifth Doctor in one of his adventures.

the Scottish storyteller in kids favourite Jackanory, and 80s drama On The Line.

He later broke into Hollywood and starred alongside Mel Gibson in Last Of The Mohicans in 1992, playing Colonel Edward Munro, and Miller in 1995’s Judge Dredd.

However he later returned to the UK and worked on gritty indie films that became cult favourites, including The Damned United, River City and Waking The Dead.

He was last seen playing Lenny on BBC series The Nest, which aired earlier this year.
