Max (played by Jake Wood) has had his fair share of romances since his character was introduced on EastEnders back in 2006, but it seems his latest relationship with Ruby (Louisa Lytton) could be for the long haul.
Most recently, Max’s explosive affair with Stacey Fowler (Lacey Turner) was revisited when his late son’s ex-wife became jealous over her former lover moving on with Ruby, only later to leave the Square after attempting to kill Phil Mitchell (Steve McFadden).
The ruthless businessman may have thought he’d seen the back of his turbulent past with women, but Bobby (Clay Milner Russell) will set the cat amongst the pigeons when he notices how close his nemesis is getting to Ruby.
Shortly before her death at the hands of her brother Bobby on the BBC soap 2014, Lucy Beale (Hetti Bywater) was having an affair with Max and next week, her killer will question whether the Walford love rat ever loved his sister.
Max and Bobby don’t have the easiest of relationships, what with the former being arrested and charged with Lucy’s murder before it was finally revealed Bobby had accidentally killed Lucy with a jewellery box.
Bobby was released from the young offenders unit earlier this year and has been struggling to adjust to life on the Square, with his sister’s death lingering over him.
The youngster has since channeled his efforts into his faith, practicing Islam as a way of finding peace with his past, a venture which will see Bobby begin to open up.
When he discovers Max’s relationship with Ruby however, Bobby is thrown straight back to five years ago when the love rat was having a fling with Lucy.
As his father Ian Beale (Adam Woodyatt) and grandmother Kathy Beale (Gillian Taylforth) try to adjust to Bobby’s new direction of faith, it seems the youngster wants revenge on Max for betraying his sister’s memory.
Confronting Max, Bobby asks the love rat if he ever cared for his sister with the ruthless businessman concerned by the youngster’s anger towards him.
It’s going to be quite a good partnership
Louisa Lytton
Max will try to explain to Bobby what happened between him and Lucy, but will his words fall on death ears as the youngster plots to break up his nemesis and Ruby?
Speaking about her character’s new romance, Louisa Lytton, 30, told The Sun: “I’m really loving it.
“For me it’s great because he’s [Max] such a popular character, so to be put with him really centres Ruby.
“She’s been through a lot, but she’s back on the other side now and I think it’s going to be quite a good partnership.”
Are Max and Ruby for the long-haul, or will Bobby do his best to drive a wedge between the pair in the coming months?
Elsewhere in Walford, Callum Highway (Tony Clay) will be devastated by an untimely death next week when he is visited by the sister of one of his colleagues from the army.
The mystery woman will reveal her brother has been killed, leading Callum to spiral as he tries to deal with his grief.
However, Vicky has more news to share with Callum as she divulges a secret about her brother when the Walford undertaker pays his respects to his late friend.
Will Callum’s discovery lead him to find comfort in the arms of Ben Mitchell (Max Bowden) after their pair had a one night stand earlier this year?
With his upcoming nuptials to Whitney Dean (Shona McGarthy) on the horizon, will Callum call it off as his grief becomes too much to bare?
EastEnders continues Thursday at 7.30pm on BBC One.
