An emotional trailer for Friends: The Reunion has shown the stars of the hit comedy series break down in tears.

David Schwimmer,Jennifer Aniston,Courteney Cox, Matthew Perry, Matt LeBlanc and Lisa Kudrow have all returned to the set of Friends – 17 years after they left their keys in Monica’s apartment for the last time.

The teaser trailer for the HBO Max sees the gang reunite in Monica’s apartment to speak about the iconic comedy series, which is just as popular now as it was when it aired.

During the trailer the group who played Monica, Chandler, Rachel, Ross, Joey and Phoebe, read through old scripts from the 10 seasons and returned to the iconic original soundstage, where they shot the series.

Emotional moments were anticipated by actress Jennifer, who played waitress-turned-fashion executive Rachel, as she returned to the set she asked: “Where’s the tissue box?”

Throughout the film, the group were seen welling up as they discussed the show. Courtney, 56, wiped away tears as she said: “It was an incredible time. We became best friends.”

And, in another shot, Chandler actor Matthew, 51, told the group: “Oh, I’m gonna cry now.”

But, the trailer also shows moments of joy and laughter between the cast – including a moment where they play another version of Ross’ quiz, which in the show saw Monica and Rachael lose their apartment to Chandler and Joey.

As they shared happy memories and revealed how the success of the series still surprises them, Jennifer revealed: “I remember going to the producer of one of the shows I was on and he went: ‘That show’s not gonna make you a star’,” referring to the iconic series.

Matt also shared a memory from his time as Joey. Speaking about the height of their fame, 53 year old Matt joked: “I remember one time, I happened to have the news on and on the TV was an aerial shot of each of our houses.

“I remember looking at it going: ‘What… My roof is a mess’,” he said, which caused Lisa to erupt into laughter.

The one-off special, which airs on Thursday 27 May on HBO Max, sees the cast reunite with special guests including Maggie Wheeler, who played Chandler’s on-off girlfriend Janice, and Tom Select, who played hunky Richard Burke.

The group will also come together to share their fondest memories from the decade-long series in a chat with James Corden.

They will also be reunited with some of the show’s most iconic costumes including THAT pink bridesmaids dress and the Holiday Armadillo costume Ross dressed in to teach his son Ben about Hanukkah.

Friends: The Reunion was originally meant to take place last year, on the 26th anniversary of the show’s first air date. But, production had been delayed multiple time due to the coronavirus pandemic.

The one-off special will also see guest appearances from Justin Bieber, David Beckham and Lady Gaga, as well as James Corden, Cara Delevigne and Reese Witherspoon, who played Rachel's sister, Jill and many more.
