GMB viewers slam Susanna Reid for ‘trying to cover Piers Morgan’ – ‘Become very rude’

Susanna Reid has presented Good Morning Britain alongside Ben Shephard and Adil Ray since Piers Morgan quit his role on the ITV show. Without Morgan, GMB has become much quieter but viewers have been disappointed to see Reid trying to step into her former co-host’s shoes. Those tuning in have claimed the host has “become very rude” as she interrupts and talked over guests on the show.

Thursday morning was no different as Reid was slammed over her interview with Ed Miliband, who joined via video link to talk about his “electric revolution”.

When Miliband explained he was calling for an electric vehicle revolution across the country but did not yet have an electric car himself, Reid mocked the guest.

Reid asked: “I presume you have got [an electric car] one?”

“I have not yet, it is a work in progress,” Miliband replied.

A horrified Reid hit back: “What? Practice what you preach.”

Miliband assured the host: “It is a work in progress, we had actually gone out of our way to buy one before lockdown.

“It is going to happen I promise you, I have bought an electric bike but it is on its way.”

Viewers took to Twitter to slam the hosts, with one commenting: “#GMB Susanna Reid seems to be trying too hard to cover for Piers Morgan that she’s become very rude.

“No matter your political views no need to talk to Ed Miliband in such a belittling way.”

Another continued: “Susanna Reid consistently comes across as really rude to all guests.

“Trying to hard to get an answer to a question that nobody is that a**ed about. The way she spoke to Ed Miliband just was so patronising. This show is turning into complete rubbish. #GMB.”

However some viewers believed Reid was doing a job in Morgan’s absence as they posted: “Susanna vs Ed. Classic #GMB viewing. @piersmorganwould be proud.”

Morgan quit Good Morning Britain after backlash over his comments about Meghan Markle’s mental health following her interview with Oprah Winfrey.

He has since returned to the ITV studio to collect his belongings, which were all packed up in boxes.

Posting an image of his dressing room on Twitter, he told his 7.9million followers: “Goodbye, Good Morning Britain!

“(I think I’ll leave the cardboard cut-out, would be a bit creepy to take that home…).”

Reid shared the post on her own Twitter account, writing: “End of an era. Thank you for five incredible years of rows, rants & reasons to eye-roll.”

When a viewers claimed she deserved a medal for “putting up” with Morgan for so long, she hit back: “There are many occasions when we haven’t agreed.

“But @piersmorgan has also been supportive and generous with advice. It wouldn’t have worked otherwise.”

It’s not yet been confirmed who will replace Morgan full time after GMB explained Ben Shephard was remaining as part of the presenting family rather than taking over from Morgan.

Good Morning Britain airs weekdays on ITV at 6am.
