Harrison Ford is one of the staple, original members of Star Wars. Before it was even a franchise and the movie became the massive success it went on to become, Ford played Han Solo. A handsome smuggler and owner of the Millenium Falcon — or a scruffy-looking nerf-herder as Carrie Fisher’s Princess Leia called him — Han went on to be integral to the original trilogy, and later the sequels. And when asked about his favorite Star Wars memory, he had a fun answer.
Harrison Ford has an interesting favorite ‘Star Wars’ memory
In an interview with BuzzFeed, while he played with a puppy, they asked Ford what his favorite memory was while filming Star Wars. Ford explains that it has to do with the fact that no one on the crew (or anywhere) had seen anything like Star Wars, so there was some confusion.
The complete and utter disdain that our very experienced British crew felt for what we were doing. They couldn’t figure it out. Guy running around in a dog suit and a princess and some guys in tight pants. They couldn’t figure out what we were doing, so they laughed at us constantly, thought we were ridiculous. And we were, but we made a movie that people really enjoyed seeing.
Chewbacca might have been an interesting sight to see, along with Leia’s space buns. And Stormtroopers? Definitely never-before-seen on a set. When BuzzFeed asked if he stole any props to bring home, Ford incredulously revealed that he doesn’t steal. “Steal props? No, I wouldn’t do that. I took away memories.”
Ford came back for ‘The Rise of Skywalker,’ but don’t ask him about Force ghosts
As for his involvement with the newer sequels, Ford revealed how easy it was for director J.J. Abrams to bring him back for The Rise of Skywalker. “When JJ [Abrams] asked me to do it, I said, ‘Are you kidding? I’m dead!’” Ford told USA Today on Feb. 14. “He said, ‘Sorta dead. You can do this.’ He hadn’t written anything at that time. But he said, ‘This is going to be great.’ So I said okay. If JJ asked you do something, you’d probably do it too. He’s a very persuasive guy.”
Ford’s Han Solo shows up near the end of the film, as a figment of Kylo Ren/Ben Solo’s memory. He urges his son to do what’s right, which ultimately turns him back to the Light Side. But for those fans that are arguing that he’s a Force ghost, Ford has some blunt news for you. “A Force ghost? I don’t know what a Force ghost is,” Ford said. “… I have no [expletive] idea what a Force ghost is. And I don’t care!”
Ford said ‘luck’ is what landed him roles in ‘Star Wars’ and ‘Indiana Jones’
Despite Ford’s often hilarious answers to Star Wars content, he does appreciate them and told Entertainment Tonight that it was “luck” that got him his major roles. “A whole lot of its luck and a lot of it has to do with the talented people that I get the chance to work with,” Ford said. “The success of George Lucas [and] Steven Spielberg rubbed off on me… I’ve been blessed.”
He mentioned Spielberg because of the upcoming fifth Indiana Jones movie that’s set to begin production soon. When Entertainment Tonight asked about jumping back into that franchise, Ford shared that he was excited to be the famous archeologist again. “I love making those films,” he said. “They’re great entertainment.”
