Jill Duggar is proving time and time again that she’s actually the most rebellious of Jim Bob and Michelle Duggar’s kids. According to her husband, Derick Dillard, Jill has taken a serious step back away from her famous family since Jim Bob has seemingly kept Jill on the outs. Now, Jill is making her own decisions regarding what’s best for herself and her family. And she’s even drinking alcohol.
Jill and Derick clarified that they never get drunk when drinking alcoholic beverages, though. Here’s what they said.
Jill Duggar caused serious controversy when she chose to drink alcohol
The Duggars grew up with ultra-strict rules, as Jim Bob and Michelle are devout Baptists who believe in following the Bible at all costs. This also meant the family doesn’t consume alcohol. Once in the past, Jessa and Jill accidentally drank some spiked punch, and they immediately noted how gross they thought it was. But it seems times have changed for Jill.
Not only is Jill breaking the Duggar family dress code, sending her kids to public school when she grew up homeschooled, and likely using some form of birth control, but she’s also venturing into the world of alcoholic beverages. She and Derick had a date night on Sept. 5, and she posted about it to Instagram. Not only that, but eagle-eyed fans noticed she was drinking a piña colada. And Jill confirmed it had alcohol in it.
“We’ve missed our regular date night outings during covid and have had lots of in home dates, but we were able to swap childcare with friends last night for a date!” Jill captioned her post.
Jill’s aware that the public has opinions on her drinking
Fans went into a frenzy once Jill verified she consumed alcohol. And it seems Jill noticed. On another Instagram post she added on Sept. 9, she made a funny reference to the alcohol drama.
Jill posted a photo of her and Derick drinking coffee. “Morning coffee date with my hubby @derickdillard (& Sam tagging along too),” she captioned the post. “Oh, and since it seems y’all are interested in my choice of drinks recently (lol recent post)…yes, this was a REGULAR coffee (I.e. full caf) white chocolate mocha with coconut milk.”
Fans loved Jill’s snarky response, too.
“When Jill’s drinking the coffee, but really is spilling the tea,” one fan commented.
“I love the last part of this post,” another wrote. “Coffee and piña coladas are amazing.”
She and Derick Dillard noted they never get drunk
It seems Jill and Derick wanted to make a few clarifications when it comes to their alcohol consumption. The couple took to YouTube to answer some frequently asked questions — and, of course, the cocktail debacle was referenced. But they noted they never drink to get drunk, as the Bible strictly prohibits this.
“We try to practice what the Bible says about anything,” Derick starts. “As far as alcohol, we believe scripture’s pretty clear that drunkenness is absolutely sinful. So, we definitely, neither one of us has ever drank to drunkenness and don’t ever plan to. But that doesn’t mean that Jill wouldn’t have a piña colada at dinner or something.”
Jill then added that she and Derick want to be “careful and sensitive” to other peoples’ boundaries when it comes to alcohol, too. “I think we just want to be wise, but we also … want to live transparently too. … Even with our kids, eventually … I think it’s good not just with this area, but with other areas, just for them to see a healthy balance in our lives.”
It doesn’t look like Jill and Derick will be having any wild party nights with booze now or in the future. But we can expect to see a few more cocktails with their meals!
