Law and Order: SVU fans are patiently waiting for the final episodes of the hit NBC police drama. However, Olivia Benson (played by Mariska Hargitay) and her team are set for a dramatic finale as they investigate a particularly horrific case, hopefully, in time for Fin Tutuola’s (Ice-T) upcoming wedding.

Despite happy news coming their way, the SVU squad are heading for a tense showdown in the season 22 finale.

The team are investigating a child trafficking ring, and they are surprised when they discover it has ties to politicians, in particular, the Chief of Staff.

In a recent promo trailer for the finale episode, titled Wolves in Sheep’s Clothing, Benson and her team are worried about where this case could lead.

If the politicians discover the SVU squad are after them, will the squad be in danger?

The synopsis for the June 3 finale reveals Fin and his girlfriend, fellow detective Phoebe Baker (Jennifer Esposito), are making plans for their wedding.

However, Benson and Amanda Rollins (Kelli Giddish) are investigating a homeless single mother who has been trafficked.

It seems likely the case will interfere with Fin’s wedding plans, given this is a season finale.

Yet, the high stakes of the case could lead to the team being in grave danger.

“What the hell is going on here?” a worried Benson says to the squad.

It appears from the promo trailer that Benson and Rollins discover numerous young mothers and children are being trafficked in New York City.

However, Benson and Rollins begin investigating and clues lead to the Congressman’s Chief of Staff.

The two are horrified by what, and who, they see and hurriedly take photos as evidence.

Benson details what’s happening to Fin and ADA Dominick Carisi (Peter Scanavino), and the detective-turned-lawyer is shocked, saying: “This is just the tip of the iceberg.”

The finale episode is also expected to see the return of Benson’s former partner, Detective Elliot Stabler (Christopher Meloni), in another crossover with Law and Order: Organized Crime.

Could Elliot’s return signal he will be there to help on the case, or worse, to help save Benson and Rollins’ life?

No matter the outcome, SVU will surely have an epic finale as they battle the corrupt politicians of New York.

Despite the shorter season due to the COVID-19 pandemic, fans have praised the series for its brilliant and monumental season 22.

Responding to the promo trailer, one fan wrote on YouTube: “Despite being the shortest season due to the pandemic, this season of SVU is turning out to be one of the best in a while.

“It had awesome stories. And not to mention Barba’s return and the Benson/Stabler reunion that has definitely lived up to expectations.”

Other fans also expressed their excitement for the forthcoming finale, with another stating: “I can’t wait for the season finale, it’s gonna be dazzling!”

Law and Order: Special Victims Unit is currently airing season 22 on NBC in the US. A UK release date has yet to be announced.
