Love Is Blind: Why was there gap between filming and release? Real reason revealed

Netflix show Love Is Blind snowballed into a global success after a moderate reception when it dropped on Netflix on February 13. The series aired episodes over the course of three weeks with a total of 10 episodes. Viewers were glued to their sofas as they were drip-fed instalments seeing the various romances between the couples progressing.

Fans were treated to a reunion special which aired last week and showed what happened after the finale, where some couples tied the knot and others going their separate ways.

However, it turns out the show was filmed back in 2018 with the shoot wrapping in November of the same year.

The show was filmed over the course of a few months two years ago in Atlanta, Georgia as singletons from the local area hoped to find the one.

The initial stage of the pod dates lasted for about 10 days, after which the engaged couples were flown off to Mexico from a romantic getaway.

In the remaining stages of the show, the couples lived together in apartments as they got to know each other and plan their weddings.

They had approximately a month to get to know each other before their wedding when they would decide to spend the rest of their lives together or walk away from each other forever.

But why was there such a massive gap between the show being filmed and finally hitting screens?

In an exclusive interview with Express.co.uk, Love Is Blind creator Chris Coelen explained why this was the case.

Coelen said: “There are two reasons. One, obviously we finish filming in November of 2018 and obviously we had to edit the show.

“But with Netflix releasing the show’s first season, there’s a process which is a bit different to a terrestrial network, going through dubbing and subtitling and getting everything ready for the different platforms they have around the world. That’s part of it.

“But I think the best part of it, which was something I was fully embracing, was they saw the show, they loved it and they wanted to give it the best possible launch date.

“We all felt, and I was really honoured, they chose to launch it on Valentine’s Day. So, rather than before the end of the year or at new year’s, I thought Valentine’s Day was a great time to launch it.”

Coelen added: “It was a great choice and I was a hundred percent onboard. So, that’s why we ended up launching then.”

The gap has also given the contestants a chance to process the experience, which left some of them heartbroken while others were married.

Love Is Blind also featured a reunion special in the wake of the show’s phenomenal success which has propelled the contestants into the spotlight in a mere month.

There’s now been talk of international versions of the show with individual editions for different countries.

Audiences are also eager to find out more news about a possible second season.

Coelen said he was in discussions with Netflix about a possible Love Is Blind rollout across the world.

However, he didn’t have any specifics about when season two would air as conversations were still ongoing at this stage.

He was also positive about a British edition of the show, saying: “I think it really doesn’t matter whether it’s people from the UK or people from Germany. I feel like it’s a human thing.”

Coelen continued: “For a group of participants from the UK, I absolutely think it would work because it gives you permission to be vulnerable in a way none of the people who participated in this version of the show felt like they would do.”
