Love Island: Mike and Leanne’s victory sealed as former winner gives backing?

Love Island is back with ITV viewers able to get their fix of the dating show six months earlier than usual. As the show returned with a new presenter in the form of Laura Whitmore, there was a new batch of islanders all hoping to find love. Last year saw Amber Gill win alongside Greg O’Shea and now she has spoken out on who she wants to win the competition.

The popular reality show, which began for its sixth series earlier this month, has already aired some huge twists.

Contestant Ollie Williams quit the villa after four days, claiming he still had feelings for an ex-girlfriend.

Friday’s episode saw twins Eve and Jess Dale split up after two new boys entered the villa and instantly stirred things up.

One couple who have seemed to have a more solid start to the series are Leanne Amaning and Mike Boateng.

They have quickly become a favourite amongst fans, many of whom are currently rooting for the pair to go all the way.

Last year saw islander Amber take the crown alongside Greg after a difficult time in the villa but the pair later split.

However, she has maintained a friendship with Ovie Soko, who was a late addition to the series last year but quickly became a hit with viewers.

Speaking in their new Just Eat campaign as Love Island insiders, the pair gave their reactions to this year’s batch of islanders, along with who they think will win.

Giving her first thoughts on the new series, Amber noted: “It’s mad how quickly it’s come around. I’ve never been so excited for Love Island before, I wasn’t even this excited for our series!

“Hopefully they’ll have the best time… It was a bit traumatic for me,” she admitted.

The pair quickly praised Mike, with Ovie warning him to “stay out of drama”.

Amber added: “He reminds me of you [Ovie]. I like the positive energy, I feel like he’s going to be a joker.

“He’s my favourite and she (Leanne) is my favourite so far so I’m glad they couple up together. They’re going to be a power couple,” she stated.

“I’m scared – I hope they don’t couple up now because then Casa Amor happens. And you know exactly what happens with Casa Amor!’

“We don’t need to talk about Casa Amor,” joked Amber.

Amber saw love interest Michael Griffiths decide to pick Joanna Chimonides in an explosive recoupling after the boys’ stint in Casa Amor.

On who they think will emerge as the winning couple, Amber and Ovie both agreed Mike and Leanne were their favourites – could they go all the way?

Amber said: “I think Mike and Leanne. But you never know, nobody would have guessed for one second I would have won the show.”
