After it was revealed that Manifest wouldn’t be returning to screens for season four despite the cliffhanger ending, fans took to social media to urge network bosses to change their minds and also tried to convince other streaming platforms to pick up the series. According to one fan, their efforts may have proved successful after another show that was put in place to replace Manifest was recently cancelled.
The hashtag #savemanifest had gone viral on Twitter after the series’ creator Jeff Rake took to the platform to encourage fans to share the campaign.
This came after the show’s network NBC made the decision to axe the show after season three due to a decline in viewership.
Jeff was determined to give fans closure after Manifest aired its cliff-hanging season finale and with the cancellation putting a stop to season four, fans were able to bring attention to the campaign.
#savemanifest propelled the series back into Netflix’s most-watched series and according to Deadline it even gained the title of being the most-streamed show, a week after its cancellation with almost 2.5 billion minutes spent streaming.
This may have just paid off after a fan account noticed that the Law and Order spin-off which was supposed to replace Manifest had been axed.
The fan shared the news on Twitter and tons of other viewers celebrated the fact that this could mean a complete u-turn from NBC.
One fan stated: “We don’t need another Law and Order, I don’t understand their decision to let Manifest go makes no sense at all.
Another wrote: “Come on @nbc what are you doing, you cancelled this show for the new Law and Order show and that’s not moving forward, give the fans what they want and give us a season 4”
“I need to know how the story ends! This was a cruel joke getting us all involved in this story, “ another added.
A disappointed viewer tweeted: “Wtf? So THAT’S why we lost manifest? So stupid. Place it back then since you aren’t going forward @nbc fix your mistake!”
One fan tried to come up with a solution and said: “It’s a crappy situation and so unfair. If Netflix refuses to pick it up for a season 4 then, by all means, allow it to go to peacockTV or another streaming service. They shouldn’t be allowed to collect on the popularity and not give it a go for season 4. #SaveManifest.”
Whereas another argued: “How many law & order spin-offs does the world need? Bring back Manifest @nbc. This network is getting like ABC and cancelling all good shows #SaveManifest.”
Manifest hooked viewers in with its mysterious plot about the missing Flight 823 that disappeared for five years after departing from Montego Bay and landing in New York.
The crew and passengers on board were completely unaware that they had mysteriously vanished from existence and with their loved ones all pronouncing them dead.
The series also followed Captain Daly (played by Frank Deal) as he hijacked a plane to prove his innocence after law enforcement hounded him for answers he didn’t have.
He was able to fly the plane into the sky before it was shot down by the National Guard, however, when they checked the plane there was no sign of Daly.
Throughout the series, the passengers slowly begin to understand why they were given a second chance at life.
Some hear voices and others have visions that helped them gain a new lease of life.
In the shocking cliffhanger, Daly strangely reappeared after being missing for most of season three and fans are yet to find out where he went and what he saw.
Hopefully for viewers, Manifest will indeed get picked back up by NBC for the long-awaited fourth instalment.
