The 13th instalment of the popular spin-off is currently airing on CBS each Sunday. Agent Marty Deeks (played by Eric Christian Olsen) will face some of his toughest missions yet after finally becoming an official member of the NCIS team last year, but NCIS: Los Angeles fans still don’t know everything about his life before the series.
Deeks and his wife Kensi Blye (Daniela Ruah) will return on Sunday night for one of the show’s most harrowing cases after a Vietnam war veteran is assaulted.
However, viewers are still hoping the NCIS spin-off will delve deeper into the agent’s mysterious past.
Teasing what’s to come, Gemmill admitted: “We’ve never done the ‘Deeks, M’ episode.”
Some viewers have been clamouring for a special Deeks-centred episode for years.
Throughout the series, a number of main and recurring characters have been given their own episodes exploring their backstories.
Each episode’s title is based on the character’s initials, and fans have loved the likes of Blye, K, Callen, G and Reznikov, N over the years.
Despite being one of the show’s most beloved characters, Deeks has yet to receive his own episode based on his past.
The showrunner continued: “We haven’t really settled on what we want to do yet.
“And because it’s taken us this long, now it feels a lot more pressured to do it in such a way that the fans feel like the wait was worth it.”
Finally, he added to TV Line: “We’ve got a lot on our plate this year, to be honest.”
Gemmill’s response suggested it’s sadly unlikely Deeks will be given his own prequel episode this season.
After his introduction way back in season one, viewers are still pondering how Deeks transitioned from his job as a public defender to becoming a police officer.

There is still the mystery of what happened after the agent shot his own abusive father left to uncover.
Plus, the origins of Deek’s notorious dark alter-ego Max Gentry would certainly make for a thrilling episode.
Unfortunately, it appears season 13 already has a lot of storylines to juggle.
Team leader G Callen (Chris O’Donnell) is tied up with Russian agents yet again, and the squad is still feeling the loss of Nell Jones (Renée Felice Smith) and Eric Beale (Barrett Foa).
There are even concerns Deeks and Kensi could retire or even leave the series for good after witnessing yet another vicious attack in episode two.
Both NCIS and its Los Angeles-based spin-off have already said goodbye to several major players over the last two years, with Leroy Gibbs (Mark Harmon) even bowing out soon.
As Deeks’ days on the show are potentially numbered, hopefully the series can peel back the curtain on his origin story before he moves on.
NCIS: Los Angeles season 13 continues Sunday, September 17 on CBS.
