Peaky Blinders season 6: Is Aberama Gold really dead?

Peaky Blinders has been known to bring back seemingly dead characters at various points in the series so far. Therefore, some fans have been speculating over whether Aberama Gold (played by Aidan Gillen) was really killed in the dramatic finale of season five.

Is Aberama Gold really dead in Peaky Blinders?

Tommy Shelby’s (Cillian Murphy) plan to kill Oswald Mosley (Sam Claflin) in the season five finale of Peaky Blinders had some dramatic consequences for the Birmingham gang.

Viewers watched as he teamed up with Alfie Solomons (Tom Hardy) to disrupt the Birmingham rally while his old war comrade Barney Thomas (Cosmo Jarvis) took out the target.

All did not go to plan in the final few moments when it was revealed someone had betrayed his plan.

After Barney was killed, violence erupted in the crowds as the Peaky Blinders were targeted.

While Arthur Shelby (Paul Anderson) and Tommy managed to escape backstage, not all of the gang members were so lucky.

Viewers watched in horror as Aberama Gold was stabbed to death by mysterious masked assailants.

This was after he had been waiting in the wings ready to murder Jimmy McCavern (Brian Gleeson) as revenge for his son’s death.

He was left bleeding by the side of the stage while Arthur and Johnny Dogs (Packy Lee) had to leave him before the cops came.

Arthur then confirmed his death to Tommy telling him that “Aberama’s dead, he’s gone.”

However, as the episode and the season finished just moments later, some viewers were left wondering whether this was the last time they’d see the hitman.

This is especially the case as he was a set to become a fully-fledged member of the Shelby family through his engagement to Polly Gray (Helen McCrory).

Some fans have weighed in over whether the beloved character is actually dead or not.

One fan named @peakybonniegld wrote: “In loving memory of Aberama Gold. He’s not dead, I just love remembering him.”

“Hey Steven Knight Steven Knight, can Aberama Gold not be ‘Grace dead.’ We deserve to see more,” another user named @smarsmars added.

A third named @woldial also said: “I vote to bring back Aberama Gold. He did it with Alfie so he can do it for him. Why kill him?”

If he is still alive, it would certainly not be the first time the show brought a character back from the dead.

This first happened in series one when Danny Whizz-Bang (Samuel Edward-Cook) was revealed to still be alive and then in season four when Arthur was revealed to have not been killed at the boxing match.

Then, Alfie was re-introduced in the season five after fans thought Tommy had shot him dead in series four.

As well as this, actor Annabelle Wallis made a number of appearances in the fifth series as Grace Shelby after her character was killed back in season three.

However, these were through ghostly hallucinations Tommy was experiencing as a result of his mental state.

Fans would likely be happy to see Aberama back as the hitman was certainly a fan-favourite on the show after appearing in two seasons.

Viewers will remember he was first introduced in series four when he formed an alliance with Tommy over the threat of Luca Changretta (Adrien Brody).

The pair then went into business together as Aberama grew increasingly close to Polly.

With the news that the sixth series will have a time jump to 1934, it seems like fans will have to wait to find out exactly what happens when the show returns.

Peaky Blinders seasons 1-5 are available to watch on BBC iPlayer now.
