Phil Mitchell to make exit from EastEnders as he lands new role

Phil Mitchell (Steve McFadden) has become part of the furniture on EastEnders, having first appeared in 1990. However, he may be set to bow out of the show as he takes on a new role.

Actor Steve McFadden is heading for panto land this festive season, as he stars in a production of Jack and the Beanstalk at Dunstable’s Grove Theatre.

The show will run from December 8 to 31, with tickets starting at £17.

This will no doubt mean that the actor will need to take some time away from Albert Square, but will the exit be permanent?

It just so happens that EastEnders is set to air a murder on Christmas day, which was first teased during a flash forward episode in February.

The first-of-its-kind episode showed six Walford women, now affectionately called The Six, surrounding a body on the floor of the Queen Vic, with Sharon Watts (Letitia Dean) announcing that ‘He’s dead.’

With Steve set to switch Albert Square for Dunstable, could Phil Mitchell end up being the body on the floor?

Many fans are already convinced it could be him, given that ex-wife Sharon is in a wedding dress, and two other former romantic partners are also involved in the killing.

A scene aired earlier this year left us suspicious that Phil may fall victim to The Six, as the camera focused on him while Kat and Stacey Slater (Jessie Wallace and Lacey Turner) dwelled on how they don’t know where they’ll be ‘this time next year’.

All we know for certain about the victim so far is that they are male and are wearing a very striking pair of cufflinks, so there is every possibility that Phil Mitchell may finally meet his match this Christmas.

However, Steve has previously appeared in pantomimes during his time at EastEnders, so it is entirely possible that Phil will still be on screen come next year.

Whatever happens, we’ve still got a few more months to wait…
