Courtney Kemp’s first spin-off to her smash hit drama Power may have been renewed for a second season, but viewers could have a long wait ahead before the next five episodes of Book II are released on Starz. Thankfully, a number of clues may have tipped viewers off to when Tariq St. Patrick is expected to return to screens.

James ‘Ghost’ St. Patrick (played by Omari Hardwick) may have been killed in the final season of Power, but the story continues this year with Book II.

Aptly titled Ghost, the new series from showrunner Courtney Kemp follows the wealthy drug dealer’s son and murderer, Tariq (Michael Rainey Jr.) as he starts a new life at Stansfield University.

Tariq hasn’t been able to escape his past, and so far he’s spent his freshman year struggling to balance his mother Tasha’s (Naturi Naughton) court battle and his new partnership with drug runner, Monet Tejada (Mary J. Blige).

Things came to a head in the latest episode, and Tariq made a disastrous mistake which could cost him his freedom.

Unfortunately, the final five episodes of Book II, season one, may not hit screens for several weeks.

The cast and crew were in the crucial stages of filming when the coronavirus pandemic hit critical levels back in March.

Although the series has been able to return to set, the unexpected hurdle has meant the schedule for Power’s first season would have to be staggered.

Thankfully, Starz has renewed the spin-off for a second season, so Power won’t be absent from screens for long.

Still, the series caused some uproar last Sunday when the sixth episode of the show’s highly anticipated follow-up failed to surface.

As the wait continues, it’s hoped Book II will be on its way to wrapping up its first season before the end of 2020.

In the meantime, some recent clues from the network have convinced some fans they’ll only have to wait a few more weeks before the midseason premiere.

Entertainment blog Cartermatt recently shared an insightful post after spotting some crucial information hidden at the end of Book II, episode five.

They wrote: “Following this past Sunday’s midseason finale, the Starz drama aired a video that indicated that you’re going to be waiting until December to see the remaining episodes on the air.

“Why? This may be, in part, due to the show needing to finish production due to the global health crisis.”

While filming was able to resume in September, not enough time has elapsed to allow for the cast to finish shooting their scenes, nor for the editors to compile the final episodes.

However, it’s hoped the Power team’s hard work on season one will come to an end soon, and Kemp and co. can head straight into piecing together season two in time for next year.

Cartermatt continued: “We know that there are five episodes back, and because of timing, we know that the show’s probably going to run straight through to the new year.

“Our hope right now is that the series will be back on Sunday, December 6, though that has not been 100% confirmed as of yet.”

Looking at the series’ previous schedule, this theory certainly makes sense as the premiere for Book II hit Starz on Sunday, September 6.

It’s all based on speculation, though, so Power fans are keeping their eyes peeled for an official announcement from Starz.

Power Book II will continue in 2020 on Starz and Starzplay.
