Starz series Power Book II: Ghost has been a smash hit with fans after it started airing in early September. The show follows on from the phenomenally successful series Power and simply continues the story. But what does the future hold for the show?

How many seasons of Power Book 2 Ghost will there be?

Season two of Power Book II: Ghost has been given the green light by Starz after the show was a success for the American broadcaster.

The second outing is expected to be coming out at some point in 2021 but of course the coronavirus pandemic is likely to have an impact on production.

Express.co.uk spoke exclusively to actress Naturi Naughton shortly before the show got the renewal confirmation from Starz.

At the time, the Tasha St Patrick star admitted she didn’t know the future of the show.

However, she did say the writers were preparing for the eventuality of a renewal.

Naughton said: “So all I know is I know that Courtney and the writers may be writing and planning for the future.

“It’s just hard to like, it’s hard to say because we are still in the process of seeing how the fans react show season one.

“So, like a lot of times things change. You know, like when a season comes out, fans might claim to a certain character fans might hate certain characters.

“Fans might want more of this, more of that. So, I think as we watch, you know, as we watch this season, we’ll get more information of how to approach the next season.”

Her words suggest the programme-makers put a great deal of thought in the plot and respond to the fan reaction to the show, tailoring the story to some degree to the loyal audience who has been with the series for years now.

Given season two swiftly got the green light, the future is looking bright for Power Book II: Ghost and it could be as successful as its predecessor.

The success of Power Book II: Ghost is also a testament to the writers, who made the bold move to kill off the main character and move the story on to focus on others within this world.

But it’s a gamble which has paid off in dividends with Book II having a distinctly different flavour, now focusing on the drug dealing scene at a prestigious college campus and the gritty world of Tasha’s life in prison.

Naughton commented on how Power Book II would see these familiar characters put in “entirely new circumstances”.

She promised Power Book II would feature all the elements fans loved from the parent series but now taken to an “new exciting next level”.

Naughton also said it was “different” filming without her co-star Omari Hardwick, who portrayed main character and her onscreen husband James “Ghost” St Patrick.

Viewers are also likely to be looking ahead to the other shows from the Power universe, which are in the pipeline including Power Book III: Raising Kanan, Power Book IV: Force and Power Book V: Influence.

Power Book III will be set in the 90s and have a different tone to it compared to Power Book II, which could help bring new fans to the Power universe.

While Power Book IV will be focusing on Tommy Egan (played by Joseph Sikora) after he went to the West Coast to start again in the wake of Ghost’s death.

Finally, Power Book V will be focusing on Councilman Rashad Tate’s (Larenz Tate) rise to power as the Governor of New York.

Tate is likely to be eyeing up the White House and the show will see whether the corrupt politician can make it to Capitol Hill.
